These are the minutes of the 61st meeting of the Wildrose Chapter in Edmonton and Sherwood Park.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at the Maverick Brewery's hospitality and meeting room, but they were still under construction and could not accommodate the meeting. The brewery's marketing manager did meet with our group, and gave us the history, plans and goals of the brewery. He also allowed our members to sample Maverick's bottle beer "Superior Lager" in a painted label bottle. Their first batch of beer sold out in 14 days. Our members then moved to Brewsters, the alternate site to hold our meeting. Brewsters would not provide us with a meeting room as we did not give them enough advance notice. Our members, being the good sports that we are, decided to stay at Brewsters to have lunch and socialize.
Phil Greenwood came to the chapter's rescue and invited us to have the Chapter meeting at his home in Sherwood Park. Our members, after an enjoyable visit, storytelling and lunch at Brewsters, headed to Phil's for the meeting. We arrived at Phil's house around 3 pm and spent time admiring his excellent breweriana collection, setting up raffle prizes, and preparing to conduct the meeting.
Marlene called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm. Marlene welcomed all those in attendance, thanked the members for coming out to the meeting, and apologized for the confusion with the various meeting sites. Our members all had a good laugh at how the chapter members were fumbling through the day.
We have desiced that there will no longer be a winter meeting. Our winter meetings for the past 2 years, have been cancelled due to inclement weather and poor road conditions. Futer meetings will be held in April, July or August, and in October. Rita Longacre suggested that the chapter consider going back to Polson, Montana, in the spring of 2007.
The chapter's bank balance as of September 30, 2005, was $4,257.40. The Financial Statement for the year ending September 30, 2005 can be viewed by asking Marlene, who will have it with her at the meetings.
The 2004 Can of the Year award went to Mario's Brewery in Saskatoon, SK. for their Canadian Wildlife Beer. The label of the Year went to Two Rivers Brewery. At the next meeting in Red Deer I will be bringing the CB Can of the Year choices on paper and hope to get a selection from all attending members so that I can send our contribution to Jim Duffy for compilation against all of the outside votes. If you want to participate in this award, you can vote for your favorite can at the meeting or your can send an email to Jim Duffy and voice your opinion.
The Canadian Brewerianist Convention was held in Saskatoon, SK. at the Ramada Inn, from August 10-13, 2005. The attendance was down from last year, but those in attendance enjoyed themselves and had fun. Congratulations to Dick Sweet and his gang for a job well done. The 2006 Convention will be held in Toronto, Ontario.
