Patterson Family History
Welcome Patterson Family History
According to a book entitled The Surnames of Scotland, by George F. Black, PHD, published by the New York Public Library.

The name Patterson is derived from the Scottish. The name is from 'son of Patrick', or Patrickson, and the spelling was interpreted in different ways (Patterson,Pattison) and so on.

Also from the book entitled Clans and Families of Ireland, by John Genham (Chief Herald of Ireland). The Patterson name is now found throughout Ireland, though it is commonly only in Ulster being particularly frequent in Co. Down.

Interestingly the founder of the Belfast Natural History Society was Robert Patterson (1802-1872). Probably not directly related to this line of Patterson's.

The primary Surnames included in this site are: Patterson, Creamer, Blackburn, Nowlin, Nabors. There are others listed in the Hierarchy page.
