SNOWFLAKES
Chapter 1
Kesy* ran towards the stables. She was going to
see Snowflakes, her new horse. Snowflakes was a white stallion.
When Kesy got there, Snowflakes was saddled. "Hello
Snowflakes!" she called. Snowflakes whinnied happily. Kesy
put her foot in the stirrup and swung into the saddle. She put
her other foot in the other stirrup. Then she lifted her feet out
in the air and gave Snowflakes a soft kick. Snowflakes started to
walk foward. Kesy led Snowflakes up the hill. Just then she heard
another horse. Someone else was riding on a horse.
"Hello!" called Kesy. "Who are you?" The
person was a little girl. She stared at Kesy for awhile, then
turned around and rode away. Kesy watched the girl leave. Then
she rode deeper into woods. It was getting dark. Kesy turned
around to leave. But a puma was blocking her path!
Kesy, spelled: (Ces-sie)
Chapter 2
Kesy wasn't sure what to do at first, there in
front of her was a large full-grown puma. Snowflakes answered her
question soon enough though. The horse got
scared and began to run in the opposite direction! "No
Snowflakes! Not this way! It's getting dark and we'll get
lost!" Snowflakes didn't listen, she just kept running and
running. Deeper and deeper into the woods. Kesy thought they had
lost the puma, but when she looked behind it was hot on their
trail. Then she heard a strange sound coming from the forest, she
got very frightened. "Oh Snowflakes stop! There's something
in that bush!" The puma heard the noise too, he got scared
in and ran away. Shortly afterwards the noise stopped, and the
small girl from earlier crawled out of the bush. "Oh it's
you! Thank you ever so much! Who are you?" Kesy asked. The
girl stared at her, pointed in a direction and ran away.
"Strange isn't she Snowflakes?" Kesy sighed. Snowflakes
let out a short neigh. Kesy was lost and didn't know where to go,
she decided to go the way the girl had pointed. It turned out to
be the right way, for in the dark she saw her father by the
stable with a flashlight, and the porch light of her home off in
the distance. She rode up and her father looked angry.
"Where have you been young lady!? You know your not supposed
to ride at night." He said mad. "Oh Father! I'm
sorry!" She cried. "I was chased by a wild puma, and a
small girl who can't talk saved me!" He looked a little
puzzled but shook it off "Well I'm glad your safe, but we'll
have to see about you riding in the evening anymore" She put
Snowflakes in the stable, hung up her saddle, and headed for
home. On the way she heard rustling in the bushes, she turned and
looked. The girl was watching her. Kesy stood there for a moment
and the two girls looked at each other. "Kesy come on!
Dinners ready!" She heard her mother say. "Coming
mother!" She yelled. She turned back and the girl was gone.
Chapter 3
Kesy hurried to finish eating. "Kesy!"
said her mother. "Why are you hurrying so much? You can't go
outside this late!" Kesy had finished. "Can't I at
least say goodnight to Snowflakes?" she asked. Her mother
shook her head. Kesy got up from the table and ran upstairs to
her bedroom. She stared out the window for a long time. Finally
she fell asleep.
She woke up very early, about seven 'o clock. She ran downstairs.
Her mother was making breakfast. "Mother!" said Kesy.
"Can I go riding?" Her mother nodded and said,
"Your father is riding a new horse." Kesy ran outside.
Her father was riding on a golden horse with orange mane and a
orange tail. "Father!" she said. "He's so pretty!
What did you call him?" Her father smiled and said, "He
is beautiful. I didn't name him. He came with the name Rising
Sun." Kesy ran into the stables and saddled Snowflakes. Then
she leaped on and kicked Snowflakes softly. Her father was
waiting for her. "Lets go for a ride." He said. Kesy
nodded and she and her father rode into the woods. Her father had
a rifle with him. "Father," asked Kesy. "Why are
you bringing a rifle?" Her father frowned. Then he said,
"It's getting towards winter. I want to have some food
stored before then." Kesy nodded. They rode on in silence
for awhile. "Father," said Kesy. "Why didn't you
bring our dog, Phantom?"
"He would scare anything. I have to train him to be a
hunting dog, like his mother."
"Why not use Evening anymore?"
"She's too old. We're lucky we have that puppy. If we didn't
have Phantom, we'd have to were Evening out, and when she got too
old and died, we'd have to use every penny we've got for a new
dog. And we still have to pay taxes." They rode on some
more. Then the little girl came riding up. Rising Sun reared up
and Kesy's father flew off!
Chapter 4
Kesy jumped off Snowflakes, "Daddy! Are you
ok??" She ran to his side. He slowly got up "yeah I'm
fine...Why did Rising Sun do that?" He asked. "I think
he was scared of that little girl.." Kesy said pointing to
the spot the little girl was standing. "What girl?" Her
father asked. Kesy turned around and the girl was gone.
"Well she's gone now, but surely you saw her when she rode
up on her horse?" Kesy said. "No I didn't see anyone,
it must have been your imagination. He probably just got spooked
by a wild animal or something. Let's head home." He said. As
they rode back Kesy began to wonder if the girl was made up in
her mind.
The next day Kesy went riding back to the hill, she loved riding
up to the hill. The little girl was there. Kesy stared at her for
a long time. "Are you real?" She asked suddenly. The
girls eyebrows raised and she started to ride off. "No,
Wait!" Kesy shouted. She gave Snowflakes a sharp kick and
they rode after her. The girl had a fast horse, but it wasn't
faster then Snowflakes. They darted here and there and soon Kesy
didn't know where she was. "Oh not again!" She said
with tears in her eyes. The girl heard her cry and stopped. She
rode over to her. She hopped off her horse and approached Kesy.
"I am Debbie." She said. "Debbie?" Kesy
repeated. "Your real!?" "Of course I'm real"
Said Debbie. 'My horse is Moonlight" That name fit him well,
he was pure black. But his mane and tail shimmered in a way that
it looked dark blue. "He's very pretty..." Kesy said
"Where do you live? How come you never talked to me
before?" Kesy said. Suddenly there was a rustling in the
bushes. "Oh no, I must go, head north then east and you'll
find your house!" She jumped on Midnight and rode off
quickly. Kesy turned back to the bush and saw two eyes. Then they
disappeared and there was no sign of anyone. Kesy got very
frightened and jumped on her horse. She made it home in time for
dinner and didn't get in trouble. Then she headed off to bed.
Chapter 5
Kesy was up very early the next morning. She ran
downstairs as fast as she could. Her mother and father were still
asleep. "Kesy!" said a voice. Kesy's little sister,
Anna, came running into the kitchen. "Can I ride with
you?" asked Anna. Kesy thought for a while. "OK."
She said. "But you have to ride Vitamin."
"Oh! I wanted to ride Eclipse!"
"But you can't! Your only six! Eclipse is too wild. So, you
have to ride Vitamin." Anna frowned. "OK," she
said. "But you have to promise some time to let me ride
Snowflakes." Kesy didn't answer. They walked out to the
stables. Kesy saddled Snowflakes, and helped Anna saddle Vitamin.
Vitamin was a gray mare, with a black tail and black mane. Kesy
helped Anna climb up. Then Kesy climbed on Snowflakes. "Give
Vitamin a kick!" she called to Anna. Anna kicked Vitamin,
and Kesy kicked Snowflakes. They rode up the hill. Then into the
woods. Anna started getting scared. "Where are we?" she
asked. "Where are we going?" Kesy laughed. "I'm
looking for Debbie." She said. "She has a horse called
Moonlight." They rode for another two hours. Then Kesy saw a
little cabin. Debbie ran out of the door. "Hello!" she
called. "Come see!" Kesy and Anna dismounted and
followed Debbie into a barn. It was a big room, and the ground
was covered with hay and straw. There was one stall. Two little
foals walked out of the stall. They stopped and stared and the
three girls. "Oh!" shouted Anna and Kesy. Debbie
laughed. "They are fillies. That golden one is called
Sundance, and she looks just like her father! That black one that
looks like Moonlight is called Moondance. They were born last
night. They are twins!" Kesy and Anna watched for a long
time. Then Kesy frowned. "We have to go Debbie, its almost
breakfast!" They ran outside and climbed on their horses.
Then they rode away.
Chapter 6
On the way back Kesy told Anna not to tell her
parents about Debbie, cause they might not want them to play with
her without meeting her and she's really shy. Anna promised she
wouldn't tell. The whole family sat down to breakfast, and it was
delicious! "So where did you girls go riding?" Their
father asked. Anna looked at Kesy and Kesy shook her head then
said "Oh we went to the forest for awhile.." "The
forest! Kesy, your not supposed to go there, it's dangerous! And
taking your little sister too!" Her mother said very
surprised. "Oh honey, Kesy knows her way around the forest
very well I trust her" Her father said with a smile. Anna
started biting her lip. "What's the matter Anna?" Their
mother asked. " well uh, we uh, there was this little girl
and she was really nice! And she has a cabin and two beautiful
fillies that are twins named Sundance and Moondance!!" She
blurted out. "What? A little girl?" Her father asked
"Yes Father" Said Kesy "She's the one I was
talking about the other night, Anna and I made friends with her,
she's really nice." "I think we'd like to meet
her" Said her mother. "Oh mom you can't!" Anna
said "She's really shy!" "well can we meet her
parents?" Father asked. "Well we haven't even met her
parents." Kesy said. "Then take me to her cabin and
we'll meet them" He said. Kesy and Anna looked disappointed.
They cleared the dishes and, with their father, rode over to
Debbie's house. They knocked on the door and Debbie answered.
"Kesy!" She exclaimed. "What are you....you
brought your father! Oh no you must all leave right away!"
She said. "But Debbie, why?" Kesy asked. "Well,
it's my father.." she said "He's going to be back very
soon and he doesn't like visitors...you better go quickly!"
Then she slammed the door. They mounted on their horses and rode
off "Well, I don't think you should play with her any more,
girls, she seems a little rude and if her father doesn't like
visitors there's no telling what he'll do to you." "Oh
But father!" Kesy shouted "She's really nice, she is!
Trust me!" "No Kesy, you listen now, no more seeing
Debbie." Kesy started cry, she couldn't believe how mean her
father was being. She gave Snowflakes a sharp kick and they rode
off, but what Kesy didn't realize was she was headed in the wrong
direction. "Kesy no!" He father shouted. But she didn't
listen and soon she was out of sight. "I have to go after
her, but I can't leave Anna alone in the woods.." He took
Anna home and then went looking for Kesy. He had no luck.
Meanwhile Kesy was riding like the wind, she'd always wanted to
run away with Snowflakes and now was her chance. But soon they
both got weary, she could see lights not to far away and rode up
to them. It was a horse ranch with a motel right next to it! How
lucky she was. She decided to check into the motel with the
little money she had in her pocket and try and get a job at the
horse ranch!
Chapter 7
Kesy rode over to the ranch. She climbed off Snowflakes and
walked up to a house. She knocked on the door. A man opened it.
"What do you want?" he asked. Kesy asked, "Can my
horse stay here for the night?" The man went outside.
"Sure!" he said. "You want a job? We need someone
to look after the horses. Feed them, give them water, brush them,
exercise them… and any other jobs you can think of. Work
hard and you'll earn a dollar a day, plus three meals. Want
to?" Kesy nodded. The man brought her and Snowflakes into
the stables. "You can sleep here tonight, we don't have any
more beds. Kesy thanked the man, and he left. Kesy made sure
Snowflakes was comfortable. Then she lay down and piled straw all
over her. Soon she was asleep.
The next day, at about 6:00 AM, Kesy heard someone whispering to
her. "Wake up!" Kesy opened her eyes.
"Debbie!" she said. She leaped on her feet.
"Debbie!" she said again. Debbie laughed. "You
didn't know I worked here? So what are you doing here?"
"I came here for a job." Kesy explained. Then she told
Debbie how Anna had told their parents about her, and how her
father said they couldn't see Debbie anymore, and how she had
runaway. When she had finished, Debbie pulled Kesy towards the
door. "Jim, that's the man who lives in that house over
there, said you could help me round up the cows." Said
Debbie. Kesy pulled back and ran to Snowflakes. "I have to
saddle Snowflakes! Unless, she added, "I'm supposed to ride
Moonlight with you… That was your horses name, wasn't
it?" Debbie didn't answer. Kesy climbed on Snowflakes and
him out the door. Debbie was on her horse. "Was Moonlight
your horse's name?" asked Kesy.
"Yes." Said Debbie. And then she was silent. Kesy could
see something was wrong. "Debbie," she said. "Is
there something wrong?" Debbie looked up. "No."
she said slowly. "But we better round up the cows, or we'll
be in trouble." Debbie kicked Moonlight and they galloped
off. Kesy followed at a trot. She knew something was wrong with
Debbie, and she was determined to find out what it was!
Chapter 8
They went out to the field and started rounding up
the cows. Kesy stomach began to growl and she realized she hadn't
had breakfast. "Hey Debbie!!" She shouted over the cows
mooing and the sound of their hooves hitting the ground. Debbie
was silent "Debbie!! Can you hear me? Debbie!!!" She
shouted even louder. Debbie looked at her "Oh sorry, I uh
didn't hear you, what's
the matter?" She finally answered. "Well I haven't had
breakfast yet, and he said I get 3 meals a day.." Kesy said
"Yes Kesy, after your morning work, we don't eat till were
done here." Kesy looked disappointed. She was starving!
Finally about 45 minutes later they were all done and had the
horses back in the stable. They walked into the house "Hello
Jim" Debbie said. "Hiya Jim!"
Kesy replied. "Good morning girls" He said glancing at
them and then back to his newspaper. "Oh Kesy, I meant to
ask, did you get your parents permission to work here? And will
you be living here or going home at night?" Jim asked. Kesy
didn't know what to say. "well, I'll be staying here. Oh
Debbie let me help you make the eggs!" She said trying to
change the subject. She hurried over to the stove and began to
talk to Debbie. Jim thought it was strange but he shook it off
and went back to his paper. After the girls had breakfast Debbie
went out to the field to tend to some business while Kesy went to
the stables to feed and bathe the horses. She gave them all food
and by the time she gave the last one it's food the first one was
done and ready
for a bath. She bathed him and then moved on to the next one.
Their were 15 horses in all. She knew this would take a while so
she took her time. As she was washing the third one Jim came in.
"Just checking on your work!" He said examining the
horses. "Good job, their all fed and your washing them just
fine. Try not to startle them, if any of these horses get loose
you'll have
quite a fee to pay." Then he walked out. Kesy continued to
wash the horses. Fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh. It was almost
lunch time and Kesy was beginning to get tired. She loved horses
but her hand hurt from holding it up so long. Just then her
stomach growled. It scared the horse and he kicked over the pale
of water. Kesy ran and hid behind a barrel, the horse kicked and
kicked and then ran right out of the stable and down the road!
Soon it was out of sight. "Oh no!" Kesy screamed
"What will I tell Jim???"
Chapter 9
Kesy was eating dinner with Debbie in the stable.
"Why do you work here, Debbie?" asked Kesy.
"My parents don't have very good jobs." Debbie
answered. "Mother gets enough money for her meals, and
father gets enough for his meals. They didn't want to have to
work for my meals, so they sent me here."
"Do you like it here?"
"Oh, I love it here. But they won't let our foals in here.
And I'm scared my parents will be to busy to take care of
them."
"Well… is that what has been bothering you?"
Debbie didn't answer. "I have to go make sure all the horses
are in." she said. Kesy frowned. "Debbie," she
said. "I… I'm going for a ride on Snowflakes, all
right?" Debbie nodded. Kesy ran out the door. She leaped on
Snowflakes and gave him a kick. "Snowflakes," she
whispered. "Find that missing horse!"
"Debbie!" called Jim. Debbie ran in. "What is
it?" she asked.
"Have you seen Kesy?" he asked. "It's past
midnight!" Debbie shook her head. "Well," said
Jim. "I guess we'll have to look for her."
"Wait, Jim!" called Debbie. "One of the horses is
gone!" Jim turned around. "Which one?" he asked.
"Frisky!" called Debbie. She and Jim ran towards the
stables.
Snowflakes went into the woods. Kesy looked around.
"Snowflakes!" she said. "I don't see the
horse!" Snowflakes looked around. Then he reared up, and
Kesy flew to the ground. "Snowflakes!" she called. But
the horse had run off. Then she saw a shadow in the trees.
"Snowflakes?" she whispered. She walked towards the
shadow. It walked towards her. Then she saw what it was. It was a
wolf!
Chapter 10
Kesy wasn't sure what to do, she never liked dogs
much, and this was a wolf! Suddenly she heard some howling, 3
more wolfs joined the one! "Oh please don't hurt me!!"
She pleaded with tears in her eyes. Of course the wolves didn't
understand her and formed a circle all around her. Kesy rolled up
into a ball covering her stomach. She began to cry and waited for
the wolves to attack. Suddenly she heard a strange noise! A man
fired a gun shot and the wolves scattered. Kesy peeked her head
out and saw her father with Snowflakes! "Oh father!"
She ran up and hugged him. "Kesy! I'm so glad your alright!
Your mother and I have been worried sick!" He said.
"I'm sorry for running away, it's just that Debbie's my
friend, and I don't see why I can't play with her." Kesy
said looking at the ground. "It's alright, we'll talk about
it later. Right now you need to come home." He said firmly.
"Oh but
father! There's something that I just HAVE to do!" She
mounted Snowflakes and rode away. As she did she called
"Don't come after me, I'll be home very soon!" Her
father decided to trust her and headed home. She rode out of the
forest and into the ranch. There was a light on and she walked
in. Jim and Debbie were sitting in the living room, they both
looked tired. "Kesy!"
Debbie shouted excitedly. "I was so worried!" She gave
her a big hug. "I'm glad your alright Kesy, where'd you
go?" Jim asked. "Oh, just for a ride. I was attacked by
wolves, and...well my father saved me, he wants me to go home. So
I can't work here anymore. I have to start for home now or he'll
worried." Kesy said disappointed. She was enjoying working
on the ranch and
had made a few new friends. She wasn't to excited about going
home. "Oh Kesy! Will you still come see me?" Debbie
asked. "Yes of course!" Kesy said. "You know
Kesy...you can still work here part-time, if you only come 4
times a week that would be a lot of help." Jim said
"What do you think?" "That sounds wonderful!"
Kesy said "I'll ask my dad and ride over tomorrow and give
you the news!" "Great!!" Jim said happily. Debbie
and Jim couldn't wait
for the answer. Kesy rode home excited to find out what her
father would say!
Chapter 11
Kesy galloped home on Snowflakes. As soon as she
got to the house, she ran inside. Anna came running up.
"Your home!" she shouted. "I missed you,
Kesy!" Kesy hugged her little sister and ran upstairs, where
her father was sitting. "Father!" she called. "I'm
back! Can I see Debbie? Can I play with her?"
"I'll think about it." Said her father.
"Father! Jim said that I could work there four times a week!
Can I?"
"Kesy, lets talk things over tomorrow at breakfast. I'm sure
you must be sleepy. Go to sleep." Kesy walked to her
bedroom. Then she remembered something. "Oh no!" she
thought. "That horse that ran away! What should I do?"
She ran downstairs. Anna was there. "Where are you
going?" she asked.
"Um, just to put Snowflakes in his stall." She lied.
Then she rushed outside. She climbed on Snowflakes.
"Now," she said. "Lets go find that horse!"
they rode for hours. The sun was coming up. Then she heard a
horse. "Hello!" she said. There was no answer. She
looked around. "Is anybody there?" nobody answered, but
she knew someone was there. She turned Snowflakes around, and
started galloping out of the woods. Then she saw the ranch.
"Help!" she shouted. Debbie came running out.
"Kesy!" she called. "Kesy, what are you doing
here?"
"I have to tell you and Jim something." Said Kesy.
"I hope you don't get too mad." Debbie laughed.
"Well," she said. "I don't see what you could of
done to make us mad when you came back!" Kesy smiled. They
walked over to Jim. "Uh, hi Jim." Said Kesy. "I
want to tell you something."
"What is it?" asked Jim.
"Well, one of the horses got away. I didn't tell you about
it. I was too afraid." Jim and Debbie looked at each other.
"Come back tomorrow." Said Jim. "I'll need to tell
you something, and you won't like it." Kesy ran outside and
climbed on Snowflakes. Debbie didn't come say goodbye. Kesy
turned around and rode home.
Chapter 12
When she came in Anna was waiting for her,
"Does it take THAT long to put Snowflakes away?" She
asked. "Shhhh!" Kesy replied. Anna looked a bit
confused and both the girls went to bed. In the morning at
breakfast Kesy
had a million questions. "So father am I allowed to see
Debbie? Can I work
at the ranch? Is it ok if I go visit the ranch today?" She
asked. "Hold
on hold on!" He said. "One at a time… well yes I
think it's ok. Debbie seems
like a nice enough girl. I'd like to meet this Jim guy before I
know if you
can work there or not. And yes you can go to the ranch, I'll come
along
too." After breakfast they walked out to the stables
together and Kesy
mounted Snowflakes while her father mounted another horse. Just
as they were about to take off Anna came running up, "Wait,
wait!" She yelled. "What is it?" her father asked.
"May I please come along too?" She asked. "Well
sure!" He said. Kesy wasn't very happy about this, now they
had to ride slow, and it always takes Anna forever to get on the
horse and be ready to go. After about 10 minutes they were ready
and started off. They went faster then Kesy had thought they
would go but it was still pretty slow. After an hour of riding
they reached the ranch. They dismounted the horses and
knocked on the door. Jim answered it. "Well hello!" He
said. "Hi, I'm Kesy's
father, I understand you have a job for her?" He said. Jim
nodded and showed them in. The two men went into the kitchen to
talk over some coffee. Kesy decided to show Anna around the
ranch, they walked to stable and found Debbie there. "Hi
Debbie!" both the girls said excitedly. "How are
you?" Debbie greeted them. "I'm alright, how about you
guys?" She said. "We're great!" the girls said
replied. "Can you play or do you have to work?" Kesy
asked. "Well I have some more work but it's about my brake
time." She said. The girls went to the brook with their
horses and gave them a drink. After awhile Debbie said she had to
go back and finish her work. They headed back on their horses and
when they arrived Jim and Kesy's father were waiting for them.
"Well dad, can I work here?" Kesy asked. "You sure
can!" He said happily. "Jim is a very nice man!"
Kesy was so excited she started jumping up and down. It was then
that she remembered Jim had some news for her, he said she
wouldn't like it. "Oh yeah Jim, what's the bad news?"
She asked. Jim's smile quickly turned to a frown. "Lets go
inside and I'll tell you." They all walked inside, Kesy was
a little afraid of what he was going to say.
Chapter 13
Jim and Kesy sat down. "What is it?"
asked Kesy.
"You have to get the horse back in a week." Said Jim.
"If you don't, you will have to give Snowflakes to the
ranch." Kesy stared at Jim. Then she ran out the door. She
climbed on Snowflakes. "Where are you going Kesy?"
asked Anna. Kesy gave Snowflakes a kick and they galloped off.
Anna decided Kesy was just taking a walk with Snowflakes. She
went inside to play with Debbie. Just then she heard her father
shout, "Kesy! Anna! Time to go home!" Anna ran outside
with Debbie. "Where's Kesy?" asked her father.
"I think she rode home alone." Said Anna.
"Oh, she must know the way back, she's come here before
alone." He helped Anna on her horse. Then he climbed on his
horse and they rode away. When they got back, Anna's mother ran
over. "Hello!" she called. "Where's Kesy?"
"Anna says she was going home alone." Said Anna's
father. "She probably stopped along the way. Don't
worry." Anna ran upstairs and started playing. Soon her
mother called her down for dinner. While they ate, Anna asked her
parents, "Why isn't Kesy here?"
"She may be camping near the house." Said her father.
"Will she come back?"
"I'll go out and tell her she has to sleep in the house
before it gets dark."
"But what if I get lonely before then? I won't have anybody
to play with!"
"I'll get her after dinner." Anna walked upstairs. Her
father went outside to look for Kesy. She wasn't there yet. By
9:00, she still wasn't back. Anna started to get worried.
Kesy was still riding down the road. "I'll never give you
away." She whispered to Snowflakes. Just then, she saw the
horse! "There!" she called happily. She climbed of
Snowflakes and tied a rope around the horses neck. But then, she
realized she didn't know which way to go. She was lost!
Chapter 14,
"Oh no!" She exclaimed. "Lost
again! I wonder if Debbie will come to help
me?" She decided to stay where she was for a while instead
of getting lost
even more. "Hey I came through that way! I can see a horse
print, and it's
Snowflakes!" She mounted Snowflakes and firmly held the rope
that was tied to the other horse in her hand. The went very slow
in the direction of the
horse print. "I recognize that bush!" She said pointing
to a big raspberry
bush. She kept going and suddenly the path split into to
different
directions! "Oh I don't remember this.. maybe I didn't come
this way after
all." She sat down on a rock and began to cry. She wished
she had never met
Debbie, then she wouldn't be in this trouble of being lost. Or of
the lost
horse! Or the ranch! Then she would be happy at her house playing
with Anna and taking care of Snowflakes. Then she heard some
neighing, she looked up and Snowflakes and the other horse were
fighting!! "Stop it you two!" She said jumping up. She
took a stick and hit the ground loudly, the other horse got
scared and ran away, but Snowflakes stayed there. "Oh good
girl!" Kesy said hugging her horse. "I thought you
would have run away too." It started to get dark and Kesy
made a small hut out of sticks and leaves. Then she lay down on a
big leaf and covered herself with grass. She didn't sleep much,
but she did manage to get at least 5 hours before morning. When
she woke up she could hear thumping. It was a horse! Snowflakes
heard it to and neighed loudly. The thumping stopped and then
continued again, it got louder and louder, and suddenly Debbie
and Jim came riding up the path! They had 3 horses with them,
their hooves had been making the thumping! "Oh Debbie! How
did you know where I was?" "The horse came back to the
ranch with a rope, I figured you had found him and tied the rope
around him." She said with a smile. Kesy then mounted
Snowflakes and the 3 of them headed to Kesy's house. When they
arrived Jim and Debbie said good-bye and parted. Kesy was very
happy to be home, she put Snowflakes in the stable and ran into
the house. "I'm home!" She said "Oh Debbie!"
Anna yelled. She gave her sister a big hug. "Where's
Dad?" Kesy asked. "In his room." Anna said.
"He's very upset." Kesy went upstairs and into her
fathers room. "Dad, I'm home! You don't need to worry
anymore!" She said. "I should never have to worry
again." He said. "I am forbidding you to ride
Snowflakes anymore." "What!?" Kesy screamed.
"You can't do that!" "Yes I can, I'm your father,
you've run away twice on that horse and gotten lost, if you would
just stay here at your house we wouldn't have any worries at all!
Now go to your room, and tomorrow I'm giving Snowflakes to Jim's
ranch." He said. Kesy couldn't believe her ears. "No
Not Snowflakes!" She shouted. She felt like running away
forever now! She knew that wouldn't help the situation though so
she sadly went to her room and cried herself to sleep.
Chapter 15
The next day Kesy didn't want to get up. Anna ran
upstairs. "Kesy!" she said. "We're going to the
ranch now! Get up!"
"I don't feel like getting up today." Said Kesy.
"I'm going to think of something to do for Snowflakes."
"Kesy!" said Anna. "You aren't going to run away
AGAIN, are you? I miss you when you do!"
"Anna, do you remember where we got Snowflakes?"
"Yeah, from the woods way over there." Said Anna,
pointing out the window. "She was wild and we caught her,
remember?"
"Now I remember! Now I know… I know what to do for
Snowflakes! Thank you for remembering, Anna!"
"Kesy! What are you going to do?"
"I'm not running away… I'm going for one last ride with
Snowflakes… Alone. Don't follow me, OK?"
"OK, as long as you come to the ranch with us."
"I will." Kesy promised. Then she ran downstairs and
outside. Debbie was there with Moonlight. "Kesy!" she
said. "I didn't think you were going to come!"
"I'm coming." Said Kesy. "But only if I can ride
with Snowflakes one more time."
"Can I come?"
"No, I want to be alone this once. Snowflakes is very
special to me."
"I understand," said Debbie. "I'll tell everyone
that your riding on Snowflakes one more time, and your not
running away." Kesy laughed and climbed on Snowflakes.
"Your going bareback?" asked Debbie.
"I won't need anything." Kesy said. Then she kicked
Snowflakes and rode away.
Soon they came to a meadow, that lead to a forest. Snowflakes
ears went up, and he started sniffing the air. "You now
where we are, don't you?" Kesy whispered to her. Then Kesy
slid off Snowflakes. "You're home." She said. Just then
a herd of horses came running towards them. "Go on,
Snowflakes." Kesy whispered. "You're free! Run!"
Snowflakes turned to look at her. "Go, go join the herd.
This is you're home. Go." Snowflakes turned away and ran
through the grass, and then disappeared. Kesy sat down on a rock.
Soon she saw her father, Debbie, and Anna riding towards her.
"What are you doing here?" asked her father angrily.
"Where is Snowflakes?"
"I let him go." Said Kesy. "This is his home. I
should have let him go a long time ago."
"Let's go home." Said her father, and he helped her
climb up in his saddle, and they rode home.
