Lodge Numbering

Originally, the number of Lodge 53 was assigned to a lodge working Under Dispensation (U.D.) in Henderson, Texas, Rusk County, in June 1889.

That lodge, Pomegranate Lodge #53, was on rolls several years before it was dropped from the Grand Lodge rolls.

Unlike today, the custom at that time, was to reassign numbers to new lodges.  This accounts for Sunset Lodge in El Paso being assigned #76 in 1892, and ten years later, Pride of the West lodge  inheriting the number 53 from the defunct Pomegranate Lodge.
