(picture by B.J. Harberts) The first occupant of the house in 1686 was Barent Englebrecht, he was a tailor. 23 jan 1694 the house is sold to Hendrik Carli, a wine merchant. 16 jul 1722 Dirk Melchers bought the house for f 4500,- from Maria van Vilvoorde (widow of Marcus Aurelius Delborgo, heir of Carli). Dirk Melchers was "tapper" or barkeeper, which suggests the house was used as a bar. There is information found that in 1731 Daniël Harberts was baker and lived in the house, so from now the cornerhouse housed a bakery. See: Daniël, 11 may 1697 Neder-Elten Hendrik, 14 jun 1734 Amsterdam Daniël, 14 dec 1757 Amsterdam 23 januari 1751 the house came back to Maria Delborgo, the house was never totally paid for by Melchers. 27 april 1777 the house was sold to Lodewijk Bogengenheim, a french bread baker. Aroung 1945 the bakery was ran by H. Hendriks. After him it became a branch-store of Balkery vh wed. E.A. Rekers. In the 1970's the house was restaured and in 1976 the bakery returned. One of the new occupants after the restaurartion gave commission to a sculptress (Sjuwke Brinkgreve - Kunst) to make a new stone tablet, it pictures an Angel and the words "In d'Engel".
