BIOGRAPHY | ||||||||||||||
Born: January 15, 1956 Birthplace: Port Arthur, Texas My parents were immigrants with my father coming to this country to serve as a merchant marine during the 1940's and my mother joining him in the 1950's. My dad is from Cuba and was orphaned at a young age with a similar story for my mother who was raised by her maiden aunts. They came to this country and became American citizens. I remember my mother studying for her citizenship test reciting presidents and some of the constitution in broken English. I lived in Port Arthur and attended public schools with the exception of 2 years at a Catholic school run by nuns. I excelled at school and was recognized as an outstanding student. We moved to Los Angeles when I was 12 and made the transition to the big city, to racial integration, and to a new public school system. We moved to Lawndale for the start of my 10th grade and I graduated with honors from Lawndale HS. I was recognized for outstanding academic achievement and was awarded a scholarship to the US Military Academy at West Point. I attended West Point for 2 years and then transfered to UCLA and worked my way through to obtain a BS in Chemistry. I went on to work as a regional engineer right out of college and traveled extensively mostly to Latin America. I have mostly worked in water treatment with the exception of my local business, Ace's Gourmet Creamery, that we closed in 2002. I was married in 1985 to Cynthia Cale. We have two wonderful daughters who excel in school, presently attending Margarita Middle School. We have lived in Temecula since 1998. |
