F-9F Crash Site
This F-9F Cougar was most likely converted into a drone because it was painted red. The Cougar was a US Navy fighter jet in the early 1950's and used in the Korean War. Many of the Cougars were converted into target drones during the 1970's. This one was apparently blown up in mid air by the controler when it went out of control and started heading outside of China Lake's airspace. That would explain why the debris is scattered over such a wide area.
