This mine is 9 miles outside of Trona. We hooked up with "dezrat" and the California Mine Explorers for a day trip to the mine. After exploring the mine for over 4 hours I desided to do some 4wheeling to explore farther up the mountain for more mine openings. We did find one and could actually here some of the other exporers several levels below us. After that we got back into our trucks and I got stuck in "quick sand". It took all hands a good two hours to get me out! Thanks guys! It's time for me to buy a winch!
This mine was one of four important mines in the area. The first claims were listed in the 1880s. The mine’s lower workings were developed in 1916 and then the mine faded into obscurity as the veins tapped out until it was abandoned in 1943. |
