| Belfort is located in the Sweetwater Mountains at an elevation of 10,000 ft. The view is awesome from there! The trail to Belfort is pretty easy until the last ¼ mile. You will definitely need 4wheel-drive! HISTORY: Belfort started at about the same time the Bodie mines were playing out around 1880. Nearby towns of Star City, Cameron and Clinton were larger at the time but Belfort has the only visable remains today. The mines were worked off and on for gold and silver into the 1890's. |
