MOONDOG (aka Louis Hardin, 1916-1999) A New York City icon for over two decades, Moondog - a blind beggar, poet and musician of world renown - held court at the corner of Sixth Avenue & Fifty-fourth Street clad invariably in his homespun robe, horned viking helmet, and cape, grasping a trusty spear.  He passed on September 9, 1999 at Muenster, Germany.  I never pass by that corner, but that I imagine him there - looking for al the world like Tolkien's Gandalf, with a beautiful mind and a golden heart!
HAMID HAMILTON CAMP - Sometime television actor (superintendant Andrew on TV's 1960's sitcom "He & She") and cartoon voice-over artist, Hamid Hamilton Camp has been one of the most enduring folk artists since the 1960's.  His epochal "Paths to Victory" is the zenith of the folk performer's craft and an unending source of listening pleasure and inspiration.
TONY BIRD - incredible voice, haunting lyrics: to hear any one of his three albums is to know this man's genius.  The child of British colonials, Tony was raised in Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa, leaving the last owing to the censorious Apartheid regime there for the USA in the 1980's.  His unique calypso / folk / rock / indigenous black and white african rythms are endlessly captivating.

BILLY BRAGG's eighth album William Bloke (a play on the name of his - and my - hero William Blake) is a tour de force of this wonderful balladeer's many talents: a tasty blend of politics, spirituality, sexuality, and gosh - I could go on and on!  Get to know this artist - he is, in a word - delicious!  That's Billy's version of the anthem "Internationale" playing in the background!
PAUL PENA - I became acquainted with Paul Pena as a result of viewing the wonderful documentary film "Genghis Blues" and was transported by his central Asian style Kargyrra throat singing. I was even more impressed by his album New Train: a tour de force of musical and compositional ability that deserves a place in every music lover's library.  The richness of Paul's voice is a wonderful compliment to his ethereal lyrics.  A delicious work! Paul's passing on October 1, 2005 is this world's loss and heaven's gain in peerless musical talent.
