Most people know William Dubie as Bill Dubie, the co-host, with Dave Sciuto, of New England's longest-running computer talk show, The Computer Report, on Talkradio 980 AM in Greater Boston, or as the co-columnist of the nationally published "The Shareware Report." What many of his listeners and readers don't know is that he has been publishing highly acclaimed poetry in dozens of small-press, university, and literary journals for more than 30 years, before he, in his words, "transmogrified into a geek."

Field Notes: New and Collected Poems is Dubie's first full-length volume, spanning three decades of poetry. The book, available on barnesandnoble.com, contains the text of his first three chapbooks: The award-winning Closing The Moviehouse, The Birdhouse Cathedral, and Resurrection Bingo, plus a new section, Field Notes.

Dubie says his poetic style is greatly influenced by such poets as W.S. Merwin (mid-career), William Stafford, James Wright, W.D. Snodgrass, and later poets like Thomas Lux, and, yes, Norman Dubie (no relation). Speaking of his poetry in general, Dubie explains, "I also attempt to fix on the minutiae of existence--a spider in a sauna, a crosswalk, a pet for a childless couple--as metaphors for the universal; Aristotelian, I suppose, on how a blade of grass represents the universe."

Why did he publish with iUniverse.com?

In a radio interview, Dubie commented that "these poems had already proven themselves in print, most of them twice. Editors had already seen and commented upon them, and, at this stage, I felt these poems deserved an immediate forum. I never even submitted the manuscript to any small-press or university publishers or competitions. These poems needed to be available."
