If you could describe the Illuminati with one word, it would probably be "unclear". No one is sure of what the Illuminati is exactly, or what it stands for. The only thing that people are sure of is that over 6,000 years ago, before the ancient Greeks and Egyptians ever thougt of becoming world powers, there was an island in the atlantic ocean. Its true name was lost beneath the waves when it sunk. We now call it "Atlantis". It is said the Atlanteans were technologically superior even in today's tems. So, when the island sank, some Atlanteans escaped. The survivors decided to form a small villiage in what is now called Central America. It is rumored that the villiage grew quickly into three parties. Two of which believed that it was technology that was the downfall of Atlantis, and the one who continued to develop and embrace their technology. Eventually, the third group disappeared, leaving the two under-developed groups to become the Maya and Aztecs. No further record says anything about what happened to the third group, but it is believed that they eventually bacame what we know today as the Illuminati. But, this is all speculation, and only one of many theories surrounding this mysterious organization.
They are known to carry out research on many different subjects, but the purpose of this is presently unknown.
