Every August I like to bring the kids in to the office for a nice day of rest and relaxation. OK, you got me, not every kid. K3 is still too young (3-years), but definitely the two oldest. This year I wanted to bring the two eldest in twice each. Of course, not both at the same time. Girl, boy, girl, boy. Last Friday was the Eldest' turn.

We came in a little bit later than normal for me, but not too late. Unfortunately, I actually had some work to do. But first we ate breakfast at the Green Pea. I had the usual: bacon, cheese and egg on a roll. K1 had bacon and eggs.

Somehow a movie was suggested and we chose Bend it Like Beckham. I knew very little about the movie, only it was about a girl that wanted to play soccer. Beckham, I guess, is some soccer player.

I don't know much about sports. I loved watching John Elway play football. (Note to my international readers. Here in "the States" what you call football, we call soccer. Football, for us is something altogether different. In fact we have different words for lift (elevator) queue (line) and a three letter word beginning with f, ending with g and a 'a' in the middle meaning cigarette, which epinions won't let me publish, and so on. In France I hear they have a different phrase for email. Imagine that. But I digress, I was talking about sports). And I loved watching Michael Jordan play basketball. He was very good. Now you don't need to know much about soccer to enjoy this movie. In fact, there is one adorable scene where a Dad explains to the Mom how soccer is played, using, for illustration a bottle of mustard and a salt shaker. You can imagine the comedic possibilities.

Well. We decided to go to the Loew's Theatre on 42nd street and do you know what? It has 25 different screens. That is not a typo. Twenty-five. The theatre has an elevator. Also not a typo, an elevator. BILB was on the fifth floor, screen 16. It began at 12:20 and the run time was listed as 112 minutes. The commercials began at 12:22 and the movie didn't start until 12:43. The run time may have been 112 minutes, but we didn't stay to the end of the credits.

I will say this. It was a very enjoyable movie, even if I weren't playing hookie from work. I very much enjoyed spending time with the Eldest. And it was a fun soundtrack. We both remarked we would like to get it. Can I still download music from the Internet for free? I liked doing that with Napster. But Orrin Hatch or Hilary Rosen have stopped that haven't they? I don't like that.

But it was too long. Maybe fifteen minutes too long.

But in any case, whether you are playing hookie from work or not, or spending time with your daughter or not, like soccer or not, or like good music or not. Go see this movie.
