| Not everyone is against Napster. Janis Ian is in favor of it. Janis had a hit song called, At Seventeen back in the 70's. She likes Napster. Her web site is www.janisian.com and search around for her article titled, "The Internet Debacle-An Alternative View." Try this link, but I can't vouch it won't change. www.janisian.com/articles. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Hip and happening people, like me, who know who Courtney Love is, wouldn't suspect she can think and write convincingly and cogently. But she can. She wrote an article for Salon.com that also supports Napster and is very critical of the recording industry. Here is the link. http://dir.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/index.html | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Courtney was/is in a band called, Hole. One of their songs that I really like is called, "Heaven Tonight" I thought it was on the soundtrack to "Never Been Kissed," but I checked recently and it isn't. I know it is on the soundtrack to something. I liked Never Been Kissed even though it was geared to teenagers. For some reason I'm drawn to these coming of age stories, however, Never Been Kissed had a great soundtrack. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| One of the reasons I think the record companies are so stupid about this is because they can not stop it. And if I'm right, and they can't stop it, then it would behoove them to try to figure out a way to make money off of it instead. For instance go to this link for reviews of the many file sharing programs out there: http://download.com.com/3150-2166-0.html?tag=stbc.gp | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Instead of trying to use technology to improve their profits, the record companies are lobbying Congress and having bills drafted that are truly bad for our civil liberties and the economy. Ultimately the record companies will fail at this effort and the only ones that benefit will be the lobbyists and the Congresspersons collecting the campaign contributions (aka bribes). | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Bruce Paltrow wrote/created The White Shadow, starring Ken Howard as a former basketball player turned high-school basketball coach in the inner city. I loved that show. Ken Howard was also in a musical called, 1776. He played Thomas Jefferson. Mrs. Jefferson was played by Blythe Danner. They were also man and wife in a very short-lived TV series called Adam's Rib, a bad rip-off of the movie starring Tracey and Hepburn (Dick and Audrey?). Have I gone nuts, or were Ken and Blythe married at one time? Also in 1776 was William Daniels, who is more famous for his current role in Disney's, Boy Meets World, but he also played the voice of Kit the Car in that awful series, "Night Rider," starring David Hasselhoff. |

| Here's where it gets freaky. William Daniels was one of the stars of St. Elsewhere, (a fantastic TV show with Denzel Washington and Howie Mandel. Denzel and Andre Braugher, in this critic's opinion are the two best actors around today) and St. Elsewhere was written/created by Bruce Paltrow. Not only is Bruce Paltrow the father of Gwyneth, but is the husband of Blythe Danner. So quite a set of coincidences. |

| Duets is about three couples traveling to Omaha for a karaoke contest. Along the way Huey Lewis gets in a fight. Andre Braugher learns how to drive and Paul Giamatti finally gets that pack of cigarettes he went looking for. The critics hated Duets. I loved it. It had Andre Braugher. It had Huey Lewis. It had Gwynneth Paltrow. It had a great soundtrack. |
