Another busy day, but our spirits are still high. This is a beautiful part of the world and the activities are pleasing most of the party most of the time. We've learned some of the history of the area, learned about trappers, communed with nature and only modest amounts of yelling by me. I had one of the skillet breakfasts at Village Inn. K3 and K2 had the chocolate chip pancakes. Off to Moose for one reason only: a stamp. We stopped at Dornan's concession for film, food and medicine. K3 has a fever and is not going to suffer in silence. Jenny Lake is named after the first wife of Beaver Dick Leigh, the first white man to settle in the area. Jenny and their children died in a small pox epidemic later. Beaver Dick then married a Bannock Indian and started another family. A boat ride across Jenny Lake puts us on a trail to Hidden Falls, and for the brave, Inspiration Point, which boasts a view of Jackson Valley across the Lake. K3 is not walking. We forgot socks and dirt is getting into her sandals, making her life, and ours, miserable. I carry her to Hidden Falls, but leave her with Mom and Grandmother while K1, K2 and myself trek on to Inspiration Point. A fun hike and well worth the effort. Back at the hotel, we swim. Mom and Grandmother go for take-out Italian at Calicos, down the road. A fine dinner. Tommorrow we leave. |
