OK, so maybe he's not that famous. But he did run for mayor of New York (and lost) and he used to be the Public Advocate for the city of New York. He's been on TV and when he walks down the street people recognize him (as someone who's been on TV).
This picture makes him look kind of goofy, but he's actually an attractive man, with a nice smile. He was in the subway speaking with a couple of men. I previously saw Mark campaigning in lower Manhattan in September of 2001.
