On our fabulous trip to Jackson, WY I was trying to convince everyone we needed to go to Pierre's Hole or old Ft. Bonneville since these sites were critical to the Rocky Mountain Fur Trade of the 1830's. Now, that should have been enough to make everyone else want to go, but they wanted more reasons.
I Found It.
There is a web site, www.nationalregisterofhistoricplaces.com, that lists the places choses for this honor. And wouldn't you know it, Ft. Bonneville is on the NRHP.
On the drive back from Jackson to Denver, we took a detour of about 5 miles to a sign in the middle of nowhere describing the site of Ft. Bonneville. It was very cool and the idea for another contest took shape.
Same as the National Park Service contest, but capture as many NRHP sites as possible.
