Letter from the Chief ......
Dear Fellow Citizens:
Williston is a progressive 13 officer department situated in Levy County in north central Florida.  Located about midway between Gainesville and Ocala, Williston is both a town and a police department on the move.  Williston maintains an excellent rapport with its surrounding agencies and actively participates in the Levy-Gilchrist County Drug Task Force and the Levy County SWAT Team.
The Williston Police Department has recently begun the accrediation process.  All officers are provided with full gear and have use of a modern ten-vehicle fleet.  Williston has, in recent months, received grants for the purchase of the latest in laser and radar technology, a speed monitoring "Smart Board," new ballistic vests and overtime monies for a variety of very popular festivals held annually in Williston.  Additionaly, drug seizure monies have helped purchase new computers throughout the police headquarters and have funded a wide variety of training opportunities for our officers.
We work hard to ensure our supervisory corps provides a supportive, nuturing environment where all officers can rise to the best of their abilities.  The department has a full-rank structure, allowing regular promotions for the most competitive officers.  The Police Union in Williston is operating under a contract which allows for up to a 5% raise annually through the year 2002.  The officers are currently working a 12-hour a day schedule that provides them seven days off every two weeks, including three days off every-other Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  They rotate between day and night shift every three months.
Williston police officers are respected in the community.  They are encouraged to further their formal education through a tution reimbursement program.  Additionally, individuals selected for hire between April 1, 2000 and April 1, 2001, are eligible for an additional reimbursement for their initial police certification training.
Williston is an excellent place to live and raise a family.  Many people move here to escape south Florida.  Housing is relatively inexpensive and extensive shopping options are available in Gainesville and Ocala.  All full-time Williston employees receive healthcare, retirement and paid vacations.  Williston also has a paid reserve officer program for individuals with their police certification.  There is also a trained volunteer auxiliary force of uniformed individuals who create their own schedule subject to the needs of the department.
Applications for employment are accepted at all times.  Openings occur periodically.  The selection process is rigorous, as we are laying the foundation for tomorrow's prototypical enlightened police department.  Interested applicants can speak to Chief Dan Davis directly for an interview and further consideration.  Williston is an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace.
Sincerely,
Daniel M. Davis
