Like last year, it was another hot and sticky day out. The Moorhead boys came out to race and they showed by putting 5 in the top 6 for a great score of 18 points. They were led by senior and sophomore Jakob Lindaas and Lukas Gemar. Running right with them for half of the race was new Willmar runner Sadam Abdi. He unfortunately twisted his ankle around the mile and a half mark but finished in 12th place. The Cardinals were led by junior Matt Weitzel, finishing in a time of 17:55 good for 9th place. Freshman Mowlid Mohammed finished 16th and Danny Voss finished 22nd with Derek Ballandby finishing 26th and senior captain Garrett Erickson rounding out the varsity line-up in 32nd. The Cardinals were running without MN#1 runner Mahad Hassan. Coming into the meet Moorhead was ranked MN#6, with the Cardinals ranked MN#8. Class A power Perham finished second

The girls race looked exactly the same from last year with the top 3 runners placing in the same order. Naomi Landecker of Staples-Motley is MN#2 in class A. Following her in second was MN#6 Abby Anderson and in thir MN#4 Maddie McClellan both from Perham. On the team side, Moorhead took the team title with a score of 43, showing some great depth and good pack running with a spread of 42 seconds. The Cardinal girls were led by Jayne Cole in 9th place with a time of 16:19. In comparison, last year willmar's top runner was a 16:55. Following on Cole's heals was fellow junior Emily Ellingson in a time of 16:35, good for 13th place. In only her second race, senior Gabi Engelkes moved up to be Willmar's 3rd runner and place 22nd. Following close to her was Erin Sheehan and Jackie Johnson, finishing 25th/29th respectively. Dominique Hudson finished 33rd after suffering a hip injury in the middle of the race.
