Alexandria Meet of Champions
October 6th, 2007
Results- Boys and Girls
On a very hot and windy day, which made many runners pass out at the finish line, the Willmar boys came into their biggest Minnesota meet of the year.  Facing MN#2, #4 and #12, there turned out to be some surpises.
MN#2 Brainerd held onto their ranking and claimed the top spot at the meet, followed by MN#12 Roseville in a surprising upset over MN#4 Stillwater (3rd place) and MN#7 Willmar (4th place).
The Willmar Cardinals came into this meet a little short handed but definitely put up a fight. Missing a normal scoring runner the boys still battled for 4th place, only one point behind Stillwater.  Willmar was led by first place finisher Mahad Hassan and fourth place finisher Andrew Nicklawsky.  This was Mahad's first race back since being injured in a car accident a couple weeks ago.  Willmar's top 5 was rounded out by Abshir Ahmed, David Anderson and Ryan Larsen.
Willmar's next meet is October 17th at the Central Lakes Conference meet in Sartell.

The Willmar girls came out and performed very well.  For the first time in many years, the Cardinals beat their section foes from Marshall.
In a very deep field, the Cardinals placed 10th. Led by Emily Ellingson in 31st place and Jayne Cole in 37th place, the Cardinals ran a very smart race. The normal #1 runner, Jackie Johnson came in next as she was battling a cold this weekend.
