On a very windy and hot sunshine day, the Willmar Cardinals put together a perfect score of 15. Willmar, currently rated #1 in the state and #8 in the nation was led by Kaafi Adeys, #7 in the state and Abdi Awale, #6 in the state, in the 1-2 spots. Finishing up Willmar's top 5 was Mohammed Bedel, Mustafa Yusuf and Mahad Hassan in the 3-4-5 spots. Andrew Nicklawsky finished in 17th to round out the boys varsity race. Next up for the Willmar boys is the Roy Griak Invitational where they will be going against some of the top teams in the Midwest and look to go big and garner points in their hunt for an NTN bid. The Willmar girls had a great day, despite the windy conditions. The young and improving team placed 7th in the 12 team field, moving up two spots from last year's 9th place effort. Led by a 16th place effort by Jackie Johnson, the Lady Cards amassed 164 points. Taking first place was Brooke Wyfells who is currently ranked #2 in the AA polls followed closely by Laura Hughes, #5 in the state. Marshall, ranked #5 in the AA polls as a team, scored 36 points to take home the team title. For the Cardinals, Erin Sheehan, Vanessa Engelmann, Britta Pederson and Carlie Freese rounded out the top 5. Next up for the Lady Cards is the Apple Valley Invitational where they ran awesome last year and placed 7th. Look for a preview for this meet on Thursday or Friday.
