In some practices of dragon magick the dragons of the past, the present and the future are called upon. The dragons of the past are assosiated with water, those of the present with earth and those of the future. Thus here you have the three traditional elements of the ancient celtic peoples.
The Dragon of The Past
The dragon of the past represents the primal forces, like order and chaos. From this space are also manifest our ancestral spirits and tribal devic energy patters. If this dragon dwells in the past then how do we connect with it? It is quite simple really, the subconscious part of our mind has no notion or meaning of what time is. In otherwords if we suspend out beliefs that time is a barrier we can access information from the past. We cannot go back and change the past or travel back in time we merely learn of those events and gain knowledge of them that we didn't before. The dragon of the past can help us there. The dragon of the past aids us predominantly with the disciplines of divination and communication with the departed.
The Dragon of The Present
The dragon of the present is connected to earth and represents the life force that flows within all of us, infusing every aspect of the physical and non-physical world. This dragon is every aspect of the world we live in from the soil and stones, to the plants to the very bricks that are used to build our homes, 'the eternal now' if you will. To advance down the path of the dragon you must learn to be a master of the moment, not having part of your self worrying about what needs to be done tomorrow, or dwelling on the mistakes of yesterday. Live for the here and now, take each moment as it comes, it would be a crying shame if you missed one!
The Dragon of The Future
The dragon of the future is assosiated with the sky and is symbolic of the gods and goddess. From this space the Sidhe peoples and the demigods of myth and legend. Wouldn't it be nice if you knew what would be waiting for you after you thump the snooze button and/or throw your alarm clock at the nearest wall? Well there is nothing stopping us from finding out, this is what the dragon of the future can teach us. Consult your Runes, Tarot, I CHing whichever. The dragon of the future will guide your hand, but it is up to you to interpret what lies in wait for you. Write down your interpretation in the morning and then compare it to what has happened in the day, why not there is no harm is there? I know I'm still pretty bad at it but with practice (and patience in my case) your subconscious mind can be trained to deliver infomation to you in a way that your conscious mind can understand it.
