Mr. Pinelands Regional
It is the beginning of January of my freshman year in High School, and I am sitting at lunch with my friend John one day.  There is a table outside the cafeteria signing people up for the first annual Mr. Pinelands Regional Pagent.  I, nonchalantly, ask John if he thinks I should sign up.  He gives me a funny look and then tells me to go for it.  Now as of this point in my life, not many people knew who I was and those who knew me consideredy me the "quiet, nerdy type."  This would all chang that faithful January 25...
So I signed up (the senior girls at the table also gave me a funny look for one reason or another) and found out there was a talent portion of the pagent.  Now I did not have any real tallents at this point so I confided in some friends to see if they had any suggestions.  I had tenth period with my one friend Rob, and when he heard my delema, he said to me, "Hey, Shawn, why don't you rap?"  I figured I had nothing else going for me, and Rod said he would write the rap, so I agreed to it.
So a couple weeks go by, and I am asking Rob daily for the rap and am not recieving it.  Finally the day of the pagent he come into Computer Science and says to me, "Shawn, I got your rap, Ryan and I wrote it during health class. We came up with a name for you, too.  Your going to be M.C. Ox"  (Ryan was another friend of ours.)  So I took the name and tried to memorize the rap in the next couple hours.
When I arived at the pagent I was given a form to fill out with personal information about myself.  I put down a buch of witty things such as how Vanalla Ice was my hero because he is an inspiration to white rappers everywhere and stuff like that.  Eventually it came time for me to perform.  I was wearing a pretty sweet outfit, on the advice of Rob and a couple other friends.  I Had the tounges of my sneakers out... my pants on backwards (remember Kriss Kross?)  a half shirt, ball cap on sideways, shades, and the kitchen clock (which I did take right off the wall in my house) around my neck.  So I was anouced as M.C. Ox and there were some cheers and I went out on stage hopeing to remember my lines.
The bright spotlight shone down on me and I started to rap... "My name is Shawn Willox..."  at wich point I drew a blank.  It seemed like forever, but then the next line came to me.  "Sly as a fox, Big as an Ox."  Blank again.  And this time the line didn't come to me.  I did have the words in my pocket and relectantly drew them out.  Then I tried to read them without much sucess because the bright spotlight was blinding me.  So I had to turn my back to the audience and hold up the paper in the spotlight and read the next line.  Then I turned back around and boasted out "And I'm kicken' the rymes strait out of the boon docks."  Now this process repeated itself for the rest of my rap, but I did finish big with "And I'll never stop rymin' and to the top I'm flying... Peace."  And with that I kissed my two fingers and held up a peace sign fully aware that I just make a complete and udder fool of myself infront of a good portion of the student body.
However, to my absolute amazement the audience went crazy.  They loved it... started chanting "Ox" over and over again.  It was pretty crazy.  The chanting started up whenever I went on stage for the durration of the pagent and did not stop until they anounced the winner.  (Which was not me, although a lot of people told me I was robbed.)
All in all a pretty crazy experience, which more or less branded me for the rest of my high school career and was a pretty defining moment in my life.
