August 18th marks my Parish's sesquicentennial... (That's their 150th birthday for those of you who don't speak Latin.) And in order to celebrate this we're throwing numerous parties all year long. For those of you who don't know about St. Mary's, we are a dynamic, developing faith community responding to the needs of the parish, local, and global communities through the inclusive participation of ALL it's members in the sharing of ministries according to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. St. Mary's is a stewardship parish, dependant on the generous sharing of time talent and treasure of it's members and is committed to good liturgy, hospitality, care of those in need, social outreach and inclusiveness. Being on staff at St. Mary's has been a wonderful blessing in my life.
Stewardship Parishes have some unique stuff about them. For example, 10% of our Sunday collection gets distributed to other charities to help out the needy in Adrian and beyond. Moreover, Sunday collections ARE our source of income. Part of being a stewardship parish is not having fundraisers. This can be quite a challenge in Youth Ministry, but the administration tells us we are not aloud to do them. I mean sure, they fell free to dress up the youth minister in funny cloths, pimp him out to sell popcorn, and work him like a dog for a nickel a bag. Somehow that's OK, but God forbid he try to raise a little money for a youth trip or something.. Umm.. Anyways... Yeah, St. Mary's!!! Here's to next 150! |
