Play of the Month
Much Ado About Nothing
"The play is one of the greatest romantic comedies ever written. Comic, lusty and full blooded. In it Shakespeare produces prose and poetry that make the little hairs rise on the back of the neck." - Kenneth Branagh

(I love his movie version  of my  play! wg)
"This particular play, and movie, has a universal appeal, interweaving romance, comedy and intrigue. The storyline is still relevant today, so much so that it's easy to forget that you're watching Shakespeare."

Most of you, when you hear the name Shakespeare, think that my plays are nothing more than long boring stories that end in tragedy -- where as many characters as is possible are killed in Act V. But that's not true. I am also known for my comedies. In fact MAAN, is one of my faves! Who can resist Benedict and Beatrice. Their witty verbal battles are a true delight.

Others also enjoy this romantic comedy. if you don't believe me, read the quotes below:

Much Ado About Nothing: Web Links
"The key to the film's success is in the acting, especially in the sparks that fly between Branagh and Thompson as their characters aim their insults so lovingly that we realize, sooner than they do, how much they would miss their verbal duets."  - Roger Ebert

MEMORABLE QUOTES FROM MAAN:

I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me.  Beatrice

I would my horse had the speed of your tongue. Benedict (to Beatrice)

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more. Men were deceivers ever. One foot in sea and one on shore, to one thing constant never. Then sigh not so but let them go and be you blithe and bonny, converting all your sounds of woe into hey nonny nonny.  Beatrice
For fun surf the Web for Shakespeare's Monoloques (the site has monoloques--for both male and female characters-- from any play you can think of, from  MAAN to Hamlet).
