A police officer, teacher and youth hockey coach, Officer Smoke's focus is on the growth and development of youth. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from Southern Oregon State University. A peace officer since 1977, with both the Monterey Police Department and the San Jose Police Department, Officer Smoke has worked as a Field Training Officer, a Robbery and Sexual Assault Investigator, as well as Vice, Narcotics, the Police Mounted and Parks Enforcement Units, and Crime Prevention. Officer Smoke has received over 26 commindations for outstanding work.
Since 1993 Offcier Smoke has been a facilitator and trainer for the successful Safe Alternatives and Violence Education Program in San Jose. Recognized as an expert in Santa Clara County on Media Violence, he has been seen or heard on local radio and TV programs. Officer Smoke is frequently asked to speak as he lectures to parents, teachers, administrators and civic groups on various media violence and parenting skill topics. He brings 26 years of front line experience, with sincerity and common sense to tackle many of today's problems.
Most recently Officer Smoke has been involved with the development, editing and supervision of a school based violence prevention program, for the San Jose Police Department, known as Challenges and Choices (C2). Over two years in the making and 900 pages this curriculum was written for every child with the forethought to bring the parent into the weekly-taught curriculum. C2 teaches life skills, based on personal responsibility, choices and consequences. |
