THE NATURE OF LIGHT

Introductory Remarks

As discussed in other papers on the Enfolding Universe, (see papers Active Forces: An Unlimited Source of Energy, James Clerk Maxwell Revisited, and Michelson-Morley, Lorentz Transformations, and Relativity Revisited), light is not a form of radiant energy but is a form of active force. For this reason, the presupposition of science that matter becomes visible to us as a result of various degrees of absorption and reflection has never been proved and is inconsistent with the numerous experiments showing light as a form of active force.

The Dark Room of the Universe

It is generally accepted that the matter within the universe constitutes a darkroom that becomes visible as a result of the Sun`s irradiation under which light to various degrees of intensity becomes absorbed and reflected. Light is presumed to be traveling as wave energy that is partly "swallowed up" as heat and partly projected back again as wave energy, similar to waves from a boat being reflected by the river bank or to an echo that repeats our names back to us.

Absorption and Reflection Apparent Only

Superficially the presupposition of absorption and reflection appears to be corroborated, with illumination appearing to be reflected light to form the image in our eyes. There is also no doubt that the course of a light wave does seem to correspond to the laws of reflection, even though upon deeper analysis it is clear that there is no such thing as a reflection of a light wave off a surface. In a sense, the apparent reflection of light is a form of the apparent self-radiation of atoms, with self-radiation being really a form of self-luminescene of atoms. Light being an active force is not the self-radiance of atoms but light could arise either (1) from an excited state of an atom when the atom is excited by a union of forces occurring within the atom or (2) from a union of forces not occurring within an existing atom. The force field of light that gives rise to self-luminescence should never be confused with the excited state of matter that accompanies self-luminescence.

Impossibility of Reflection of Light

The apparent reflection of light differs substantially from other forms of reflection. If light were an energy wave, its reflection could be accepted without reservation and would be identical to acoustic phenomena based upon reflection. As with a constant or an alternating field, light is a state of tension or potential and is not an energy wave. Light is not a simple rebounding or a change in direction from an inert reflecting wall. No amount of pressure exerted on an inelastic wall could ever be reflected. For example, magnetic field could not be reflected off a silver mirror.

Reflection as Self-luminescing Matter

In the apparent reflection of light something very different is actually taking place. As soon as any system capable of electric oscillation is brought into a field of potential, an oscillation of the alternate current aries. A part of this oscillatory energy is instantaneously transferred into heat as a result of its corrresponding electrothermal equilibrium, with the remainding part continuing to oscillate as an autonomous light source. Thus, the light we see in an image is not the same light allegedly emitted by the Sun, but is light that accompanies excited matter. Since light is an active force, the Sun, of couse, does not emit light at all, with the light we see in an image being transferred by means of excited matter. The images of our world are a part of its own luminescence. Light as an active force is necessory self-luminescent.

Mirrors

A mirror is often defined as an optical device, usually made of glass, with a smooth, polished surface that forms images by reflection of rays of light. Thus, the image in as mirror is treated as a prime example of the reflection of light. The mirror image, however, is not a reflected image at all. In fact, the mirror image really constitutes evidence that light is an active force and not radiant energy, with no evidence that the surface of the mirror absorbs or reflect rays of light at all. The Enfolding Universe anticipates the nature of images in mirrors and recognizes light is not radiant energy but comes into manifestation from the union of the centrifugal and centripetal forces. After this union light with equal probability becomes a part of either the centripetal force towards the microcosm or the centrifugal force towards the macrosom. A mirror converts the centrifugal force towards the macrocosm to a centripetal force to the microcosm and converts the centripetal force towards the microcosm to a centrifugal force to the macrocosm. A mirror is not a reflecting device but is a converting device, with the image and mirror image being of opposite polarity. Forces are being converted and radiant energy in the image is clearly not being reflected by the mirror image.

Atoms as Generating Light

Light comes into being as a result of an union of centrifugal and centripetal forces. This union may take place outside or inside of atoms. Atoms can also release the active force of light when they are brought into an electromagnetic alternating field, or a induction field. In this situation atoms appear as self-radiant as if they were excited to oscillation by the addition of thermal energy. The reflecting surface is not an inert wall that repels matter but is in its stead comprised of electro-oscillatory, self-illuminating atoms arranged side by side. The centrifugal and centripetal forces that entered into the formation of the atom when excited gives rise to the manifestation of light, leading to self-illuminating atoms.

Forms of Luminescence

Vapor and fluorescent lamps collect the flow of intons in their movement towards the microcosm. Although luminescence, vapor and fluorescent lamps are not incandescent and their luminescence is not based on glowing heat. Incandescent lamps, however, are luminescence as a result of glowing heat, and they collect the flow of outons in their movement towards the macrocosm. The outward recessional flow necessarily generates heat, as well as the expansion of the universe, as an outcome of the constant origination of outons.

Light as Active Force

Einstein failed to recognize light as an active force and treated it as radiant energy. Light, however, is not radiation and comes into manifestation from the union of the centrifugal force from the microcosm with the centripetal force from the macrocosm. After this union, light as an active force and with equal probability becomes a part of either the centripetal force towards the microcosm or the centrifugal force towards the macrocosm.

Velocity of Light as a Propagation Velocity

Once the force field is established, light as an active force is not dependent upon time for its manifestation and is manifested within the force field instantaneously. The so-called velocity of light is a propagation velocity inherent in induction phemonena, being the expansion velocity of all fields. As the force field expands, light thereby becomes manifested among an ever increasing number of units of manifestation. The force field expands at the propagation velocity of light but once the expansion occurs light is instantaneously manifested among ingredients of the force field.

Illusory Nature of the Velocity of Light

The confusion of the propapation velocity of light establishing the force field with a non-existing velocity of light transferring information within the force field is wide spread. For example, recent experiments construed by scientists as slowing the alleged velocity of light to a dead stop (see Time, January 29, 2001 and U.S.News and World Report, March 19, 2001), were based upon both confusing propagation velocity with transfer velocity and confusing active force with radiant energy. Where the so-called speed of recession of the galaxies allegedly exceeds the velocity of light, what is really happening is that the distance between them can no longer be manifested in terms of propagation velocity or, in other words, as a result of the two-way flow, the force field can no longer be established in the microscopic segue and a force field is established in the segue macroscopic to the segue from which light has departed in the apparent recession of the galaxies from one another.

Misinterpretation of Experimental Results

In the experiments allegedly slowing the velocity of light to a dead stop, scientists fired a laser light into an inky vapor vapor of atoms and the vapor became transparent to a second pulse of light, and the laser or first beam is then turned off. Along with the alleged transparency of the vapor, the second pulse was allegedly slowed to a fraction of its original velocity and in later experiments "slowed" to a dead stop. The first beam is then turned on again, and the second beam again manifested velocity of light at is top speed.

Convoluted Explanation of Experimental Results

In a convoluted explanation of the experimental results, scientists stated that the first beam prevented the electrons from resonating, making the vapor transparent to the second beam. They treat the light as being in a frozen state until the first beam is turned on again. The second beam is said to be "compressed" to a fraction of its original length and "stored" in the form of altered energy state and spin patterns in the atoms. The turning on the first beam "reconstituted" the second beam and light is restored as a form of radiant energy.

Proper Explanation of Experimental Results

The above explantion is an excellent example of how false presuppositions lead to further false presuppositions of a more advanced degree of convolution. The experimental results are readily what we would expect in the Enfolding Universe. The active force of the laser beam resulted in centripetal and centrifugal forces that were in union together to become dissassociated from their union, with the result that the vapor of atoms became transparent. Centripetal and centrifugal forces are necessarilt transparent, and in fact it is their union together that result in light as an active force. The transparency and disassociation were both temporary and took place in only as fraction of a second. After the centripetal and centrifugal forces came together again, light would necessarily be manifested. The "storage" theory is absurd.

Illusory Nature of Transparency of Light

Contemporary scientist are as much confused in their view of transparency of light as they are in their theory of reflection of light. Under the prevalent view of transparency, light waves are supposed to to propagate themselves with a different velocity through a denser "medium." This view is based upon the misapplication of the theory of material energy waves to light. Light waves are presupposed to travel between atoms as well as being tranferred over to another medium as a function of the specific properties of their carrier medium, as would be the case with sound waves. Transparency is really a result of self-luminescence or of the electro-oscillatory excitation of atoms. In particular bodies light is not manifested from the outermost layer of surface atoms but by means of field induction is manifested further inwards, creating the illusion of transparency. The field induction is a result of excited atoms that excite neighoring atoms, with the laws of reflection being modified to become the laws of refraction.

Simultaneity Required

The nature of light as an active force would necessarily require events to be simultaneous once the force field has been set up. The electromagnetic field theorem requires simutaneity of interaction once the bridge of field has been set up, whereas there would be a delay between impulses at the transmitter and receiver equal to the velocity of light, according to Maxwell`s euations. The Darkness of the Sea Depths

The time loss in the induction process necessarily corresponds to a loss of energy: Each excited atom loses part of its energy through thermal equilibrium. For this reason, the intensity of light decreases within a transparent body. It is dark in the depths of the sea partly as a result of the fact that each water nolecule has thermally given off a portion of the electric oscillatory energy that was imparted to it. It is also dark partly as a result of the fact that the force field giving rise to light as an active force does not extend to the depths of the sea, with no new energy being imparted to these water molecules.
