SOLAR FLARES

Introductory Remarks

In General

The origins of solar flares have always been clouded in mystery. The earth`s magnetic field and atmosphere protected the Earth and its people from the serious consequences of the worst of solar flares. But with increasing technology we are becoming more vulnerable to the harmful effects of solar flares (see "The Fury of Space Sorms," by James L. Burch; SCIENTIC AMERICAN, April 200l), which include coronal mass ejerctions and huge quantities of ionized gas on a collision course with Earth, such as with the exceptionally large flares that occurred in 2003. A part of the mystery surrounding solar flares is to a large degree a result of treating the forces giving rise to solar flares as a release of energy instead of forces that give rise to energy. Once solar flares are understood, the mystery ceases and their phenomenology is readily predictable. Problems of explanation discussed in "The Mysterious Origins of Solar Flares" by Gordon G. Holman, THE SCIENTIC AMDERICAN, April 2006, are products of treating solar flares not as forces but as radiant energy involving matter taking place in time and space.

Solare flares are treated as the release of energy. As such, the release would be equivalent of billions of atom bombs during an interval of a few minutes. The release gives of x-rays and charged particles that might collide withe the Earth and endanger satelliters and cause power outages. It is believed that the Sun`s immense magnetic fields provide the energy of the flares that result from a process termed reconnection under which oppositely directed magnetic field lines come together and partially annihilate each other. Although the theory of magnetic reconnection is several decades old, it is only recently that it is believed that space probes have uncovered observational evidence of this phenomenon.

The outstanding nature of solar flares is ignored by the coventional approach. Solar flares clearly show the Sun as a nearly unlimited source of enedrgy that when understood can be harnessed and utilized for the great benefit of people on the planet Earth. The theory of reconnection is an awkward misunderstanding of how centripetal and centrifugal forces acting together give rise to motion, time, space, and matter.

Solar flares would be predictable from an understanding of how force and form become enfolded together and constitute in no way a mystery. The Sun is ongoing in its enfoldment of force with form and in its process of establising from the enfolding of force with form time, space, motion, and matter is far from completion. If the enfolding were substantially completed, the equivalent of billions of atom bomb would not seemingly be "released." The enfolding would be expressed in the formation of matter and not in the formation olf energy giving rise to matter.

Centripetal and macrocosmic forces in their being enfolded with centrifugal and microcosmic forces are in the process of establising the Sun as a phenomenon. The Sun`s inner core is generally centrifugal in nature surrounded by an outer core generally centripetal in nature, but the adjustment of the centrifugal core surrounded by a centripetal core is far from completed, with both the centripetal and centrifugal forces having strong attributes of opposing forces, of which solar explosions and flares constitute evidence.

It is generally believed that reconnection results from plasma, a gas that consists of mostly electrons and protons separated from one another and a gas that is electrically conductive. An electric field is believed to push charge carrying particles along it, establising an electric current. But an electric current is a presupposition of which there is no evidence whatsoever. Electricity is not the passage of charged particles but is an active force and is not movement of charged particles. A magnetic field line is not that of charged particles but of a force misconstrued as the passage of charged particles serving as the fuel of solar flares. The interaction of solar forces give rise to energy, heat, accelerated particles and ejected materials but the action of forces should not be confused with the product of forces.

No particle evidence for reconnection will be found. Being a force, there is no material evidence sustantiating reconnection. There is, however, much evidence showing reconnection being a product of related forces. Magnetic fields are forces that give rise to what is construed as fast or slow reconnection. Fast reconnection is a product of interrelated forces enhancing one another, thus giving rise to the formulation of matter subject to acceleration. When interrelated forces give rise to deceleration, the product is what is construed as slow reconnection.
