TBI/EFI to Turbo I conversion page |
Converting a car from TBI power to Turbo I isn't as hard as everyone says. Yes theres a fair amount of parts needed, but most of it is bolt in and plug in type stuff. Ypu'll need basically all the parts the turbo variant had. |
Coverting a TBI car is one thing.. converting a carb car is another. The carb conversions are much more involved. They aren't even really worth the time and effort neccesary to convert. I'm only covering TBI/EFI conversions NOT a carb to turbo. It is like I said. MUCH more involved. |
Most of the 80's dodge FWD vehicle groups have a turbo version. If you can find the wiring harness off one of the turbo cars for your TBI car your set. If not, grab one off of an early turbo daytona or laser and let the splicing begin. I just happened to have 2 or 3 daytona harnesses, ones an 89 ones an 85.. when I swap to T2 sometime a few years down the road I'll also swap to SMEC. but in the mean time, it's easier to use the T1 g-body harness. |
Now your going to need some parts to pull this off. If the car your starting with is an auto then you'll have a little more work. If it's a 5spd. it's a little easier. here's a quick list of what you'll need - Turbo I engine, valve cover to oil pan and everything in between, also the airbox/throttle body assembly - the wiring harness that will plug into your vehicle and the associated computers (logic and power module) both out of a turbo I vehicle - Turbo fuel pump. TBI and EFI cars unit is a low pressure unit. THIS IS A MUST!! - equal length driveshaft assembly - turbo exhaust downpipe and flange (depending on vehicle) - a vaccum diagram and the turbo vaccum solenoids - proper throttle cable and if using an auto.. the kickdown setup as well |
I will have loads of pictures and tons of info on my conversion. Hopefully it might help you out as well Good Luck |
