After figuring out I needed a LOT of money to pursue my commerical pilots licence I decided to sell my shadow. Perhaps also a fit of annoyance with numerous other things as well. I was treated poorly by local RCMP (police) for not having a front licence plate on my vehicle after stopping at the local tim hortons. Apparently this is the street racer hang out and I drove a "sporty" car so I was pulled over cuffed and stuffed into a cop car for apparently stealing my OWN vehicle. I lost all my respect for The traffic section of the rcmp and the individuals on the illegal racing shutdown team. I was embarresed in front of my girlfriend and mistreated by the officer who had pulled me over. His reason for pulling me over is still unclear as I IDLED out of the parking lot. Anyways, enough of my ranting and on with the story
I sold my shadow in hopes of finding something more... how shall we say... non descript, really really non descript. How about a vehicle that goes unnoticed in a crowd of three. I first looked at a couple of 80's era 4 door malibus and other GM products and even a 71 340 4 door dart. Then out of nowhere I got wind of an 86 caravelle for 1100 dollars. Whats this i see? is that a turbo emblem on the front fender? are those the turbo vents on the hood? hmmm..... what do we have hear.
A test drive and some negotiating later and I am now the owner of a very nice little caravvelle. 170,000 KILOMTERS!. thats only around 120,000 miles. not bad not bad at all. Ohh and it has cruise, a/c, power mirrors, tilt and the premium stereo. Not bad for 900 canadian pasos! so we shall soon see a very mundane caravelle running low 14's on street tires with a full and VERy quiet exhaust. The police won't even give it a second look. I quietly sit and chuckle at the thought of many mustang owners meeting their demise on the roads.
The car blew the headgasket due to a warped head, also blew the seal out of the waterpump. :S Pulled and replaced with an 85 G-head, 89 turbo roller cam, ported exhaust manifold and threw a slew of new parts on as well. I even headed upto the track with the car just to see what it would do. failed tech due to a friggin neutral safety switch problem.
I sold the car on january 4th. No longer in my possesion as I'm looking for something either nicer, more practical and faster. BTW- I also hated the automatic.. |
