FS2 is one of the few games in the coarse angling series. We have seen other coarse fishing games before like “Match Fishing” for the C64, “Coarse Angler” for the Amiga/Ataris ST and "Coarse Fisherman" for MS Dos but no games that can match this game.

Even though the game also features spin- and fly fishing the most weight has been put into the coarse fishing.

The first time I was playing FS2 was an early Saturday morning. My wife was at work, it was raining and the kids were sleeping. I had not been out fishing for a long time so I was really frustrated! I got the game the day before but did not have time to play it.

I installed the game and selected a pond that looked like my local one I use to fish in. The tackle was rigged and the hook was thrown out in the pond. I was not waiting for long before the float was dancing and then - bang – I got my first courcian carp! It was just like in real life! No mosquitoes, no rain and no smell of fish. The next fish I got was a tench.

This game is setting new standards for coarse fishing games. Some of the new special features to mention are:

No game has ever made is possible to fish with two rods at one time. In this game you can have a second rod rigged with a ledger tagel. But be ware – if the fish first is in for a bite you can have your work for keeping track of the rods.

I don’t know if it’s a bug or if it’s a feature. If you fish with two rods you can press “a” and you are slowly spinning the lure – while reeling you can press “Ctrl” to lay down the rod in a holder and then press “space” to take over the other rod, while the first one is still reeling in. Ok I know that you can get fishing reel with automatic reel in, but I don’t believe that it was that kind of reel that I selected ;-)

The key to catching more fish is feeding. It’s up to you to use your skills and make the right mix of bait to trough out in the water.

I’m able to play this game at the same time I’m writing this review. A feature makes it possible to minimize the window while playing. When a fish takes the bait an icon in the taskbar stats blinking.

The logbook has a unique feature that lets you se where the fish has been caught in the lake.

Spooner is working on a plug-in to the game so that it will support force feedback – a feature that is quite fun.

Conclusion

This is the game I have been waiting for, for 18 years! It’s a must for all coarse anglers and I’m sure it’s going to be a great hit all over Europe. This game is a MUST-HAVE for all virtual anglers!!!
