Where is Saddam's Money?
Everyone keeps asking, "Where is Saddam's money?" First, off, is it really Saddam's Money? I mean if he did indeed steal the money it really shouldn't be attributed as his. A recent newsreport stated that the Iraqi Governing Council in Iraq thinks he stole about $40 billion (us dollars?) worth of money and invested it in fake companies scattered all around the world. Its interesting to note that he wasn't found in one of these countries but instead was found hiding in a little tiny hole (spider hole) in a non-descript location. Chances are if people hadn't spoken up, he'd still be a little spider hiding in his hole. But back to the point. Saddams money isn't hiding anywhere. I'd look first to his family and ask how they got the money. Chances are they stole it too. Or perhaps he gave his stolen money to his family. In most places possession of stolen property isn't acceptable. Just because a friend gives you a hot red sports car that happens to be hot (stolen) doesn't give you the right to keep it once the authorities determine you are the one in possession of the stolen property.

However, he wasn't found in one of these foreign countries living high on his wealth. Instead he was living quite simply. What happened to the semi trucks that unloaded a boatload of money from the bank right prior to the invasion? Where are those trucks of money now? Lets hope Mr. Saddam is spilling what he knows. Lets hope he doesn't receive a finders fee for his trouble. Lets hope his family doesn't win the right to his freedom. In essence, his family is just as guilty. They knew right from wrong and they chose to participate in the wrongness of his brutalities and dictatorship. He is lucky that his captors follow the Geneva Convention (whether or not he is classified as a prisoner of war). I can bet that if Saddam was in charge of this, that captors would be severely tortured, and their families as well. Just look at his track record. His record tells all. And he isn't going to change overnight. No, if he was in charge, he would be leading up the pursuit of continued brutality. Part of the problem is that money can usually buy silence and especially in that part of the world often money changes hands in the invisible network, from person to person with no actual paper trail.
Getting back to the subject.
Where is Saddam's money?
side note: Order #43 of the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) turned out to be rather special new money And after January 15, 2004, only the new dinars will be considered legal currency. You can read about it yourself in the aforementioned links. Perhaps Saddam, learned that his stolen US dollar bills were too noticable on the open market. However I don't think this affected him as when he was found he only had US dollars on hand. Thats all I'll say on that topic.
but yes, where is Saddam's Money? Where did he hide it all? The answer to some of this will take a careful analysis of his former regime. How much did it cost him a year or a month to run his regime of terror? Were willing participants only participants because they feared for their lives, or were there some that thrived on the power of terror and brutality. Probably careful analysis will reveal some of both. More research needs to be done to track down his reign of terror, and to track down his stolen money.
Until then we can choose to get involved in helping to track down the problem and prevent future dictatorships (even though they will probably always exist because, everyone world-wide always wants more than what they have). Get involved with the Coalition Provisional Authority on the international level. Locally get involved in your local political issues. Don't just sit there and let laws surround you more and more, no! Get out and do what you can to move forward and prevent future injustices such as this. We may never know where Saddam's money is, but we can do what we must to see it never happens again.
Sadam has money. Saddam has money even though it might not be ultimately his.... We need to find it.
