October 11, 2004 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RE: Announcing Windsong's New Artistic Director, Karen Weaver
Windsong Chorus is pleased to welcome Karen Weaver, a voice instructor and
choral director of long experience in the Cleveland area, as its new Artistic Director, at
the start of the fall 2004 season.
Windsong is a women's chorus whose mission is to perform music that
empowers women, effects social change, and builds community. Founded in 1979 as a
pick-up group performing for Oven Production's annual Womyn's Variety Show, the
chorus now numbers approximately 20 members. Members rehearse weekly for two
regular annual concerts and occasional special community events.
Ms. Weaver holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Wittenberg University in
Springfield, Ohio, and a Master of Music degree in Choral Studies with a conducting
emphasis from Cleveland State University. She is the Founding Director (1995) of Good
Company: A Vocal Ensemble (a mixed ensemble of 24 voices performing sacred and
secular chamber works), and she has been Director of the Chancel Choir of Lakewood
Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, Ohio, for four years. Ms. Weaver has a long history
as director of other church choirs in the Cleveland area and in Bentleyville, Ohio, as well
as four seasons directing The Cleveland Messiah Chorus.
She has also lent her warm soprano voice to numerous ensembles, synagogue
choirs, and orchestra choruses throughout Northeast Ohio.
In accepting the baton of Windsong, Ms. Weaver commented, "I am very
excited to be working with this group of women. They have a lovely sound and just
naturally have a lot of fun together. I think our audiences will really enjoy what they
hear at our first concert together." Chorus members are equally pleased and eager to
begin working with her.
The first concert is scheduled for Saturday, Jan 29, 2005, at St. Alban's Church
on Euclid Heights Boulevard in Cleveland Heights, Ohio at 7:30 PM. ###
