I put this site together to help anyone with the same interest that I have, maybe there is some infomation here that will be helpfull. Performance Mods: 1995 - This car was stock down to the 2.73 gears. It still had 10 deg timing and the air baffle in the fender. Nice 14 sec 1/4 mile ride. 1996 - First upgrade I purchased 3.55 Gears and a 14 / 17 Psi Procharger. The Procharger install took to a good weekend off and on. After the installation I fired the car up and had a terrible miss, the car did not pull at all, after hours of checking my installation and threating to pull it off and send it back, I stumbled on the problem, the 125K mile fuel pressure regulator diaphram had blown. It obviously could not handle the increased fuel pressure that the FMU was demanding. This was bad because gas was now being pumped into the crank case. After draining the oil and gas and replacing the fuel regulator the car ran great. The car ran a best of 12.80@112 mph on radial tires babying through first gear. Best past without the Procharger was 14.20 @ 99. The Procharger siezed the bearings after 2,000 miles of use. I sent it for repair under warranty and soon sold it afterwards. 1998 - Time for another upgrade, this time I decided to go the head intake cam and exaust route. I added a set of Edelbrock 1.94 160 heads, E303, Cobra intake, and full length 1 5/8 headers with a 2 1/2 inch H-pipe and dynomax muffleres. I electeced to stay with the stock injectors and add an adjust them to the pressure needed (56-60psi) bored out the factory mass air to 59mm. I was using E.T. Streets and 60 ft times avg. from 1.63 to 1.73. The E.T.'s went from 8.90's @ 79 to 8.40 @ 84. 1999 - The car was a little sluggish with the 3.55 gears. Next step was to change to 3.73's this took the car to 8.20 @ 85.00. Still looking for more E.T I removed the Cobra Intake and did some extensive and very time consuming port work I removed the notorious humps in the intake runners and also did alot of work on the upper with a sanding roll removing all the rough castings and smoothing the runners. The intake runners are now gasket matched to felpro 1250's and the have been opened up on both ends and deep up inside the track. The reason I'm going into detail is the fact that this made a huge improvement in performance. This alone got the car from 8.20's to 7.90's and from 85.00 to 87.00. The next step was to change out the heavy 91 model 5 - star wheels and replace them with Drag Lites. This took the car to 7.84 @ 88.00 mph with a 1.68 60 ft. Oh yea I did remove the sway bar and spar tire, smog pump and bypass the PS when racing. The car has been a best of 12.30's@110 in a 1/4 with 1.72 60 ft time. 2001 - Decided to pull the motor and replaced the crank. Now with a good crank I can get hard on the motor. (NOS!!) May 2001 - Purchased a used NOS dry system kit and converted it to a wet kit with a fogger nozzle. Still working out the bugs but the car has now been a best of 11.97 @ 115 with 150 hp. The car was missing after 4000 rpm, turns out in my hast I forgot to change the gap on the plug, I was blowning the spark out over 4000rpm. Never made back to the track, just decided to goahead with the TwinTurbo setup. Plans for 2001 - C4 a cage and either one single turbo, or twins turbo's.(maybe a 351W for improved strengh) This will be a home made junkyard turbo setup, so I will be gathering parts the rest of the summer my goal is a improve to high 10 sec et @ 125mph without spending over $1,500.00 Email: Windsor_302@yahoo.com |
