| The sky was black and the only light came from the crescent moon that was raised high in the sky. It was around midnight and Raven was aimlessly walking through the streets. Occasionally she would bump into a stranger or a pole and sometimes even a wall. Scenes replayed in her mind haunting her every thought. She was wrong about him. Shamein was not the person she thought he was. All those years of longing for him, wishing he would love her like she did. They were for nothing. Now there was no chance at all. He would probably kill her next time he sees her. Why did she help him? Maybe she was too kind hearted, maybe she still felt something for him. Or maybe it was the helplessness in his voice, the utter despair and pain. He was helplessly bleeding and would've died. He was depending on her to save him. You would have to have a heart of ice in order to leave someone like that. Then again, wouldn't he have left her to die if she was in the same position? Raven wondered if he was ok. Did he have enough blood left to survive? Maybe she should've found some food for him and laid it by the bed incase he didn't have the strength to get up. But why should she care whither or not he starves? She stopped the bleeding and that was bad enough as it is. He's supposed to kill her after all. She walked in a daze. It was such a shock to her. Her world seemed to be crumbling before her eyes. First she lost Merlin now she found the one thing she loved more then anything was out to kill her. What made it worse was that she had to kill him as well. When raven woke up from her daze she was in an alleyway. What woke her was a sudden chill in the air. All heat seemed to just blow away from her body in an instant. It was an unnatural feeling and her instincts told her she was in danger. The shadows started to move. They swirled around her trapping her. Then they took the form of skinny hunched beings with huge black eyes. Their fingers were long and so were their limbs. Tons of piranha-like teeth filled their mouths as they smiled hungrily at her. They were the shadow walkers. Then what was Shamein? Raven didn't have the time to think about that though. The shadow walkers hunched lower and prepared to attack. Raven didn't know how to attack them. What weaknesses could shadow walkers possibly have? Light. Foil said they couldn't stand light. But Raven never learned that type of magic. What the closest thing to light? Fire was the only thing that came to mind. "Teine!!" She yelled. Her hands made a circle and in the space between her hands appeared a ball of fire. She drew one hand back as if she was throwing a baseball and flung it at one of the shadow walkers. The shadow walker let out a high screech as it burned and then vanished back into a harmless shadow. Yes it killed it and that was good but there were a lot more to take down. The fire spell was simple and only took one down at a time as she repeatedly threw fire balls at them. If they decided to charge all at once she would surely be taken down. As they each started to lung at her she threw at the closest one to her. Her arms quickly got tired and she wished she knew a better more effective spell. Next thing she knew she was hit against a wall and blood dripped from her lip. She slid to the ground and the shadow walkers surrounded her grinning at their victory. Just when she thought she was going to die and closed her eyes. She heard a deafening screech and she opened her eyes again to see them running away into the shadows. Raven looked at them confused as they ran in fear. Then she heard footsteps of someone running towards her. She stiffly looked up towards the direction of the footsteps. Raven saw the shape of a man running towards her. At first she thought it was Foil but she realized the man had short air. A flash of light on his face from an outside lamp revealed blonde hair with natural red highlights and dark grayish eyes. It was Shamein no doubt, but why? He stopped in front of her and asked hoarsely "You alright?" He out stretched his hand to her and she just stared at it confused. He gave her a sad look and slowly kneeled down being careful not to rip the wound open in his stomach again. His hand lightly caressed the side of her face with his hand. The tips of his fingers lingered on her bruised lip. He stared at her like a doctor would a patient. All Raven could do was stare back too afraid to move. The only words Raven could force out of her mouth was, "Why?" "Why what?" His brow rose questionably. "W-why did you just s-save me?" She stuttered her voice wavering as his fingers traced her jaw. The touch was intoxicating. One half of her only wanted him to continue and the other half told her to run for her life. All she could do was tremble under his gently caress. He drew his hand away and Raven felt slightly disappointed by it. "Well you saved me and I wanted to know why.. I can't ask you if you're dead now can I?" He grinned at her but it wasn't an evil grin, it was a soft and gentle one. What emotions were behind the grin was a mystery to her. She continued to stare blankly at him. "So why did you help me?" He asked her. She snapped out of it and replied. "Oh well umm, I. you see. umm.. you were. umm. and. then there was the. umm" Shamein's brow rose higher as she stumbled on her words making no sense at all. "Maybe I should ask some other time." He smiled. He attempted to touch her bruise lip again when he noticed the look of fear in her eyes. She was afraid of his touch. His smiled widened as he caressed her jaw and then let the tips of his fingers trail down the side of her neck. He saw her lips tremble in a failing attempt to control herself. All this seemed to entertain Shamein more. Then something ticked in Raven and she realized what was happening. A look of horror passed her eyes and she pushed Shamein away. He fell backwards to the ground in shock as she stumbled to her feet and dashed off. Shamein watched as she ran off. He was confused, not only with her reaction but with himself. Why was it that he couldn't help but touch her like he did? Raven ran down the dirty streets fully aware of everything around her. All her concentration was on running and not hitting something. Soon she forgot why she was running, but the panic in her mind was still there sending adrenalin rushing through her body. When she arrived inside her apartment building she relaxed. Her throat soar from running and her chest heaved trying to get more air inside her lungs. Achingly she rode the elevator up to her apartment and walked to her apartment. Raven opened the door to her apartment. She could already smell the sweet scent of food. Her stomach growled and she hoped they didn't start dinner without her. Then again it was past midnight so of course they ate without her. Stepping inside she first noticed Mana on the couch wrapped in a blanket. Mana heard Raven come in and looked up cheerfully. "Hey!! I was wondering where you were!! It's nearly 1am. Oh well I'm glad you're back. The food was getting all cold and I had to reheat it twice." Mana jumped up off the couch and quickly pulled Raven into the kitchen. While Raven was eating she realized she had left her backpack at Shamein's apartment. "Oh my god." Her eyes widened in fear at the thought of him reading her notebook and finding the white jeweled choker inside and that she had to get it back no matter what. Mana looked at her confused. "What's wrong Fitheach?" Raven tried to force a smile to her lips. "It's so delicious. I could just melt into the flavors it's so good!!" She tried her best to sound enthusiastic and Mana seemed to buy it mostly because she loves compliments. She wanted to tell Mana what happened but if she did she would have to confess her love for Shamein and that even though she knew who he was she helped him. Maybe she could lie about that at first but Mana would probably figure it out eventually. Mana wasn't stupid after all. After dinner Raven went straight to bed and so did Mana. Raven's bedroom was painted a dark reddish purple. The walls were littered with photographs and posters of ravens. It was one of her habits to collect raven stuff. The dressers were also littered in porcelain ravens and candle holders. It was a major obsession. Her bed was all black and the only thing not covered in ravens. The comforter was soft black velvet which she loved because of its softness and how it felt against her skin. She kicked off her shoes and climbed into bed not caring that she still had her clothes on. Raven wondered how in Hades she was going to get her backpack back without seeing Shamein. She didn't know how powerful he was but she knew from how the shadow walkers ran from him that he was powerful. Maybe it was a stroke of luck that she was able to hit him with that ice spell in the first place. Maybe Foil weakened him when they were fighting before and he was distracted. Speaking of Foil, who was sleeping in the guest room because Mana forced him to sleep there. I mean forced because he was too kind of a gentleman to let a young girl like Mana sleep on a couch and Mana was too concerned about his condition to let him sleep on a couch that would put him in more pain. What ended up happening was that Mana pushed him into the guest room and barricaded the door so he couldn't get out. Raven only wished she could've seen it. She would have to go in the afternoon to Shamein's apartment. Raven's only hope was that when she gets there, that Shamein is not around and she can simply break in and take her backpack. Before drifting into sleep she remembered how Shamein had touched her. Raven couldn't help but think that there might be a chance after all. When Shamein got home to his apartment his eyes caught sight of something in the side of his eye. A blue one shoulder-strap backpack was lying on the floor. He remembered that Raven had that backpack on. He opened the bag and took out the notebook inside not noticing the glittering choker beside it. When he opened the notebook he didn't continue reading the story that he first started reading in the park. He flipped the pages to some poetry he found scribbled on the page. Shamein sat down on his mattress and started reading each and every poem. While reading he came across a page with a little rant. His eyes widened when he saw it was about him. After reading the rant he placed the book open on his lap astonished. "So that's why she helped me." He put the notebook down beside him on the blood stained mattress. Shamein knew Raven would be coming to retrieve her backpack and most importantly her notebook which contained her feeling for him. The only thing Shamein didn't know was what he was going to do when she showed up. He knew now that killing her would be even harder knowing what she felt. |
