Our love for the Toy Fox Terrier breed began in 1955,when we were given a tiny male puppy.  We were told he was half Chihuahua & half Toy Fox Terrier, but this little guy was all terrier in his actions. We had rat terriers on the farm while I was growing up and these small terriers could & did do just about anything we wanted them to do. My love for terriers began then and throughout the years it has not changed.

We purchased a female un-registered Toy Fox Terrier and had our 1st litter in 1958.  In the 1950's and 1960's registered TFTS were very hard to find, but we started searching for them in the early 1960's.  For years we went to Houston, San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi every time we heard of someone who was raising registered TFTS, finding they were either 12-15 lb. dogs or were not of the quality we would even consider.

In 1973 we located some quality registered Toy Fox Terriers in a town near us, purchased a nice female puppy and later acquired her mother who was 3 weeks from whelping.  We also found a nice male in Dallas about the same time.  When we registered these TFTS with UKC, we began to receive the Bloodlines magazine, Sylva Schneider had placed an ad in one of the issues and eventually we purchased some females from her.  Sylva encouraged us to come to the dog show coming up in Katy,TX.  In 1977 we attended our first show.

We purchased MonkeyShine in 1981as a 6 week old pup, from Gloria Ainsworth.  In 1983 we purchased Shawnee and a short time later Betsy from Sylva, then Little Chance from Daisy Gergick. These 4 Toy Fox Terriers were our foundation of today’s Windy Acres line.

The Toy Fox Terrier is a very healthy, happy and comical toy dog; he is big dog in a tiny body.  He is and should be all terrier.  Toy Fox Terriers are hunters, digging for moles, killing snakes, rats & mice.  They also love to tree squirrels.  He can be trained to do almost anything, as long as you make the training fun for him.  They excel at obedience, agility and are wonderful therapy dogs.  The TFT can be anything you want him to be -- a man's squirrel dog to take hunting -- a boy's playmate to run and play ball with -- a little girl's pet to dress in doll cloths -- or a lady's companion to lie quietly in her lap while she is resting.  All these things can be done by one and the same dog.

The TFT should come with a warning however, they are addictive, it is hard to stop with just one.

We want to thank the breeders who have started their kennels with the Windy Acres line and have been dedicated through out the years breeding and showing top quality Toy Fox Terriers. To name only a few -- Chryste Psik, Dot Jacobs, Ann Bennett and Christine Pruitt.

At Windy Acres we have always believed each generation must be as good as the last, but strive to make each generation better than the one before.  We feel the secret to being a good breeder is knowing there is always room for improvement.
