The deer crossing sign! Back in 91 or 92 we decided we wanted a deer crossing sign for the farm. For awhile we searched for a sign with no bullet holes. Have you any idea how hard it is to find a deer crossing sign in WV without holes? Anyway,we eventaully found on on RT 35. After creating a plan to snatch this sign,we waited till the best time possible. When the time came we loaded up the tools we would need and headed off. I was driving Randy's 79 Monty and Brad was riding shot gun. When we arrived at the sign we were lucky the traffic was low. With a few drive by's we deceded it was now or never. Brad grabs the tool pouch and hops out of the car. I drove back and forth so we wouldn't look suspicious with me sitting in the middle of the road. On the 3rd pass Brad stops me. He said he couldn't get the sign down. But yet I couldn't see it. He runs back across the road and comes out with the sign. Along with the 6foot of post it is bolted to. We throw it in the back seat with the post hanging out the passenger window and take off. After passing a few signs along the road, we got alittle edgy with the thought of the post hitting another sign so we stopped to put it in the trunk. I can remember a semi coming up on our ass pretty quick that night. It didn't take him long to back off after seeing what was hanging out of the trunk. When we reached home we stowed the sign out of sight. That morning we set it up along the road to the ol' house. When Randy came home from work we headed down to the ol' house to install an air conditioner. You can imagine the responce from Randy...."Well, what the F#*K????" The sign is still present. Surprisingly nobody has shot it! YET!!! |
