An Exercise in Awareness
Here is a very simple exercise we can all do to help us see if we ourselves are, in fact,  people who really do love. Imagine yourself going through an ordinary day. Pay special attention to those parts of the day where you interact with others. This includes those whom you live with, as well as those people you work with and those whom you meet in the stores where you shop. If you are someone who has to drive to work, don't forget to include in your list the other drivers on the road. Now imagine how you would like all of these people to treat you. Be specific. List those things you would like others to do for you. If you do a good job with this task, then you will have an important clue about how you are to act because Jesus said: Treat others as you would like them to treat you.

Now, of course, the important thing is to actually use that list. Keep it around for some time, and daily check to see how you are doing.  As time goes by, you will discover new things you would like others to do for you. Add them to your list. And don't forget, this means you have just discovered new things you can do for others. You may find yourself adding new names to the list--people whom you meet only now and then. They also need to receive the special love you have to give.

When all is said and done, we all have the same basic needs--needs for respect, love, affirmation, affection, understanding, forgiveness. And so on. When we really come into close touch with those needs, we have, at the same time, discovered the basic needs of all those who are included in our own little world.

Peace,  Father John

Vocation Views
The Lord calls us to be merciful as our God is merciful.
The Lord calls us to do God‘s will.  ( Luke 6: 27-38)

Today we are honoring those who are called to the single vocation.  A parishioner wrote that she values single people because they have the freedom to dedicate time to the community, and they witness to us that we do not need to be attached to someone or something to be loved
[
Why do you value the single people in your midst?
