Married 4-Jan-1866 to Ainsley C. Farmer
Born 26-May-1844 and died 12-Feb-1912

Garrett was born in Carroll County, VA, and was a farmer. His family was in Sulphur Springs district of Carroll County, VA, for the 1870 census and 1880. Mother Hannah was with him for the 1880 Census.

Garrett and his brother, Johnson, served in Company C, 29th Regiment, CSA. He enlisted 5-Mar-1862 and was present 10/62, absent sick 2/63 and 4/63, present 4/64, promoted to sergeant, present 12/64, deserted 13-Feb 1865 at Bermuda Hundred, took oath and released. Help anyone?

Nothing is known about Ainsley or "Ailsey" whom was called "Elsa" other than she was born in Carroll County, VA., and is the sister of Phoebe, the wife of Garrett's brother, Johnson. Ainsley and Phobe's father, Howell, is the brother of Charles and Richard Farmer who married Margaret and Martha Winesett, the aunts of Garrett and Johnson.

Garrett and Ainsley's children are:
1. Amanda Addie (21-Feb-1867 to 31-May-1939),
2. Rhoda Ellen (21-Jul-1869 to 23-Feb-1948),
3. Floyd W. (23-Apr-1871 to 21-Nov-1884), scarlet fever,
4. Samuel W. (12-Jul-1873 to 24-Dec-1946),
5. Isaac Howard (11-Sep-1875 to 9-Apr-1932),
6. James M. (15-May-1877 to 13-Dec-1884), scarlet fever,
7. Riley L. (15-Oct-1879 [the 1880 census showed Sept.] to 19-Jan-1949), and
8. Rena (about 1883 to unknown) who married Ed Delph, and
9. Lillian A. (29-Mar-1885 to 14-Jun-1888), who died of flux.

What happed to Amanda - why didn't she marry? What about Samuel W. - did he marry and have children? Any help on this family would be appreciated.

The 1870 Federal Census for Carroll County lists Garrett and Ailsey as residing in Sulphur Springs District.
