Richard called "Rick" was born in Plymouth, NC. He
was very sports minded and played junior football in
Okeechobee and high school football and basketball in Punta
Gorda, FL. While staying with Uncle D.A., he played
football in Pilot Mountain, NC. He did not play ball in
college. Rick currently plays weekend basketball
notwithstanding the pain, wrenched ankles, sprains and
occasional twisted back.
Rick has enjoyed his children. He has coached youth baseball,
sang and played word, rhyming and question games with
his children while driving. Rick enjoys working his bees, and
researching the family genealogy.
Sherra was born in DeFuniak Springs, FL. She taught high
school mathematics in Fort Myers, FL. After obtaining
her law degree she practiced law until appointed a circuit
judge. She was reelected and currently serves in Charlotte,
Henry and Lee Counties.
Rick and Sherra's children are:
1. Steven Parrish (11-Mar-1963),
2. Leah Carrol (28-Dec-1964),
3. Nathan Stamey (18-Jan-1973),
4. Alison Clark (6-Oct-1978), and
5. Eve Gaylord (9-Jul-1983).
Rick was attending the U. of Florida and Sherra Florida
State U. when they married. Sherra transferred to UF.
Rick worked while Sherra finished her degree (1965 BA)
and began teaching. Rick then completed his degree (1969 BA)
and Sherra completed her masters (1969 MA). They both
taught school but Rick decided to become a lawyer and
entered the U. of Florida law school. Sherra entered law
school the following year. After his graduation (1972 JD),
Rick worked in a nearby community while Sherra finished her
degree (1973). They returned to Fort Myers and practiced
in separate firms. They later practiced law together at
Bigelow and Winesett, subsequently incorporated and now
known as Avery, Whigham and Winesett, P.A. Rick and
Sherra both obtained advanced degrees in taxation (1976 LLM).
