Reading William Mary
Druzilla Benjamin Isaac

Blount or Blunt Genealogy

They migrated from NC into TN and then ILL.

I am looking for the parents of Reading Blount/Blunt born abt 1789, William Blount/Blunt born about 1800, Druzilla Blount/Martin born about 1790 and Mary/Polly Blount/Robinson born about 1785. They are supposed to be siblings. According to the 1850 Effingham Co ILL census, they were born in NC. They migrated to TN and then on to ILL. Reading (I've seen the name spelled Redding, Redin-from now on he will be Reading), was my GGGrandfather. If anyone has any information on these people, please e-mail me at wcalloway@aol.com Below you will find the history I have on Reading Blount/Blunt.
Reading Blount was a private in the War of 1812. He was drafted February 20, 1814. He mustered in at Fayetteville, TN on June 20, 1814 He served seven months and seven days. He was present at roll call in Mobile AL during this time. He served under Captain William McKay's Co. of Inf. Reg't Tennessee Militia and Col. Pipkins. His military papers of July, 1815 refers to Reading Blount of Williamson Co TN. He appears in the 1820 Hardin Co TN census with one male(26-45) one female(16-26) one female(under 10) one female(over 45). Reading Blount signed a petition to establish Wayne Co TN in 1819. Whether he lived in Wayne Co or the county line changed is not known. Wayne and Hardin Co lines connect. Reading Blount was married first to Zelphia Reynolds, daughter of Henry Reynolds. Henry Reynolds is found in Williamson Co TN County Court Minutes Book 1816-1817 as being appointed road overseer. I assume that Reading Blount and Zelphia Reynolds were married in Williamson Co, but no marriage record has been found. Henry Reynolds is also in the 1820 Hardin Co TN census records and he signed the same petition in 1819 as Reading Blount, so I assume they came to Hardin Co TN together. Reading and Zilphia Blount had seven children, Susan Ann Clay Blount born May 15, 1819, Henry V Blount born about 1821, James E Blount born about 1823, Ashley G Blount born about 1825, John K Blount born about 1826, Emsley P Blount born March 22, 1827 and Rebecca H Blount born about 1829. All were born in TN except Rebecca and she was born in ILL. Reading Blount appears in the Sangamon Co ILL 1830 census. He returned to Hardin Co TN before 1833, for he appears in the Hardin Co special census in 1833. There are no Blounts listed in the Hardin Co TN 1830 federal census.
Other Blounts in the 1820 census Hardin Co TN are William and Isaac. William Blount is found in the Sangamon Co ILL census in 1830 and there is an Isaac Blount listed in the Shelby Co ILL 1830 census, one county over. Whether this is the same Isaac Blount that was in Hardin Co TN is not known.
Reading Blount left Hardin Co TN sometime after 1833 (folklore goes 1835). He left his family in Hardin Co TN. In "History of Effingham Co ILL" it states "William and Redding Blunt, two brothers, and Ritchie Robinson, located near the central part of the township, on Salt Creek, in the Spring of 1838." Ritchie Robinson is their brother-in-law, married to Mary/Polly Blount.
Reading's wife, Zelphia, died about 1838 in Hardin Co TN. Their children were appointed guardians after her death in Hardin Co TN. In December, 1840, Reading Blount married Rachel Luellen/Lewelling, daughter of John Luellen/Lewelling, in Effingham Co ILL. They had five children, Julia Ann Blount born 1842 who married John Conrad Horath, Logan Henry Blount born September 17, 1845 who married (1)Susan Jane Willis (2)Lucinda Gilmore, Newton T Blount born 1846 who married (1)Melissa McCully (2)Sarah Gilmore, Druzilla Blount born 1850 believed to have died between 1850 and 1855, and Mary Ann Blount born June 1853 who married Eliza T Green.
In the 1850 census of Effingham Co, Mary Robinson, Reading's sister, was living with him. Reading died between 1853 and 1855. He does not appear in the 1855 agriculture census. Listed are Rachel Blut with one male(under 10) one male(10 to 20) one female(under 10) one female(10-20) one female(20-30).
Reading Blount applied for Bounty Land March 28, 1851 in Effingham Co ILL. It states that he was drafted February 20, 1814 at Williamson Co TN in the War of 1812 giving his age as 60, so proving that this is the same Reading Blount. I have found no land records for him in ILL, so I assume he died before it was approved. Please contact me Winnie Calloway for any information on this family.
