Article of The Week: Feb. 23, 2003

Seventeen year-old Debbie was a witness for Christ in her High School when she and a friend started an early morning prayer meeting. It grew from that small beginning to a mighty movement for God, and throughout the year, dozens of young people trusted in Christ. It all began with a moment of decision in Debbie’s life. She had gone forward to the altar again and again to recommit her life to Christ, but she had always drifted away from God. She wept as she poured out her story to a youth conference speaker. He took out a piece of paper and wrote the words NO LORD on it. Debbie told him she often said that to God.

The speaker replied, “You can’t!”

When she asked him what he meant, he said “What does Lord mean?”

“KING” she replied.

“Would you say no to a King?” he said.

“Well,” she said, “it wouldn’t be healthy.”

Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords,” he said. “You can’t say No to the Lord; it cancels Him out. If you say No to Him, He’s not Lord anymore.  You are.”

Then he tore the paper in half with NO on one piece and LORD on the other. Offering them to her, he asked, “Which will it be?”

With tears in her eyes, she reached out and took the paper that says “LORD”. Renewed in her commitment, she went back to her high school and began a witness that touched many lives for Christ. Being filled with the Spirit means saying, “Yes” to the Lord. It means agreeing with Him when He points out something you are doing wrong, and taking action when He directs you. If you repent when you slip, you have His forgiveness. (I John 1:9)

Have you been having the problem Debbie had? Right now, with God’s help, choose Jesus, Choose LORD!

In Christ,
