Winterhawk is a small, self-supported Indian youth group based in South Snohomish County, Washingon state. Our goal
is to be a support network not just for Indian youth, but for all Indian people in the community.
For the past four years we have taken an active role in SpiritWalk. One year we were proud to receive first place in the
banner competition. Winterhawk welcomes all nations and all people interested in the promotion of Native values,
education and well-being. We have several goals. Our most important is the establishment of a
scholarship program. These scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors planning to continue their studies in
college.
This year we also plan to take our meetings outdoors. We attend Pow Wows all year long, but we also want to make the
meetings fun for our students by putting on dances and taking the students to historical Indian sites, as well as starting a
basketball team.
Last year, some of our students attended the Northwest Indian Youth Conference in Browning, Montana. Winterhawk always looks
forward to making friends and contacts with other Native groups. Currently we are unable to financially support other
groups, but we are always willing to lend our hearts and hands to any group or Native in need.
We would be pleased to help teachers who feature Native American units in their classes by storytelling, talking about our
tribes, holding discussions about Indian issues, making cultural presentations, or providing drumming performances. We
would also be delighted to see new faces. If you are interested in attending our gatherings or know a student who would
be, please contact us or pass on this information.
