As I mentioned, I've been stamping about 12 years now. If there is one craft/hobby/pastime that can suck a person in, hook line and sinker, it's Rubber Stamp Art. Not only have I made some wonderful endearing friends, I have learnt so much about myself as well as the fact that I'm addicted, totally addicted to this wonderful art.
A very unkind woman said to me probably about 8 years ago that I didn't have a single creative bone in my body. This was probably the most hurtful thing that could have been said to me at the time. I'd been doing all kinds of crafty things, and most of my life. My own mother went to the London School of Arts for nearly 5 years. How cruel was this?
What this unkind and callous woman said, sent me into a desert that took a long time to come out of. Thanks to my family and friends, the internet and my online stamping community (who I found totally by chance) I've come out of that desert and not looked back.
I've had lots of things published, joined many a stamping gathering, been on weekend camps away and as mentioned in my "About Me" page, taught and demo'd at lots of craft shows. I go in swaps that have participants all around Australia! NEVER let anyone tell you you can't create. EVERYONE can, that's what Art is all about, creating. What might not look much to some can say a million words to others!
For me, creating things with stamps, paper, inks and many other mediums has been an outlet that has also helped with severe depression. I'm not ashamed to admit that I have suffered from this insipid disease a long time, although I didn't know it until a few years ago.
Stamping is calming, releases feelings that can sometimes be quite damaging. I've been known to stamp all night to just get things off my chest. I've also been known to come up with some rather unusual ways of expressing myself when all else fails. LOL. I have escaped my tormented mind many times with stamping.
