ANDY'S LIST

1. Blackhawk - Every Once In A While (3:40)
Great song.  For a more complete analysis, check my website.

2.Alabama - Feels So Right  (3:48)
You have this song much higher than I would rate it, but I severely underrated Alabama in my song rankings.

3.Alan Jackson - Chattahoochee (3:56)
Great song again.  I loved the video.  Alan Jackson water skiing in cowboy boots and losing his hat.

4. Keith Whitley - When You Say Nothing At All (3:40)
Touching love song and a much better version than that done by Allison Krauss.

5. Dan Seals - One Friend (3:10)
Just tell me that this is not about a cow Andy.

6. Kenny Chesney - Back Where I Come From (3:54)
Moving song that brings a smile to your face and a tear to your eye as you remember the old hometown.  I think I just stole some lines out of George Strait's song "Heartland".

7. Diamond Rio - Finish What We Started (3:20)
Rated too high, but it is a quality tune.

8. Conway Twitty - That's My Job (4:51)
Father/son song that paints a picture of the relationship and trials of life.

9. Sawyer Brown - Some Girls Do (3:47)
Great song to both sing and listen to.  “Cause some girls don't like boys like me, oh but some girls do.”

10. George Strait - Amarillo By Morning (2:54)
Full info given on my website.

11. Garth Brooks - Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) (3:14)
Story of my life right here.  Well all except for the part about being a bull rider.  Well, I can identify with the title.

12. John Schneider - I've Been Around Enough To Know (2:39)
Right artist, wrong song.  Rather hear, “What's A Memory Like You Doing in A Love Like This.”

13. Alan Jackson - Wanted (2:57)
Song of heartbreak and the need for forgiveness.

14. Kenny Chesney - I'd love to lay you down (live) (4:12)
Cover/duet of/with Conway Twitty's classic.  Great song that does everything but say the word “sex.”

15. David Ball - When The Thought Of You Catches Up With Me (3:00)
Guy's life is hindered by constant memories of the woman he loves/loved.

16. Alan Jackson - Where were you when the world stopped turning
Fitting song as a memory of September 11, but I would not rate it this high as it becomes slightly depressing after a while.

17. Sawyer Brown - The Walk (3:47)
Story of a father and son and how the father had to do all the hard things the son is going through.

18. Travis Tritt - More Than You'll Ever Know (3:24)
This song had a cool video with the old man collecting flowers throughout only to cover what I assume to be his wife's hospital room with them.

19. Garth Brooks - American Honky-Tonk Bar Association (4:07)
Song saying if you have problems go to the local bar and they will understand you.

20. Keith Whitley - Don't Close Your Eyes (4:11)
A man wants his lover to keep her eyes open as they “physically express their love” so she doesn't start to think about her old lover.

21. Garth Brooks - The Dance (3:58)
This song is thought provoking.  Basic message: the good times you've had make the pain worth it now.  My question: Does that include hangovers?

22. Randy Travis - Forever And Ever, Amen (3:33)
Great song including lines forming visions of bald women.

23. Alabama - Mountain Music (4:12)
Foot-stomping upbeat song with the great old man speaking at the beginning.

24. George Strait - The Chair (2:51)
This song is about quite possibly the worst pick-up line ever.  Perhaps that is what makes it so great.

25. Garth Brooks - Friends In Low Places (8:56)
Should be a top 10.  This song propelled Garth to superstardom and is the ultimate dream story for several people I know.  Who wouldn't want to tell their ex off at their wedding?

26. Sawyer Brown - The Race In On (3:04)
A remake of the George Jones song, but done much better the second time around.  Perhaps it is just the energy put into it by Sawyer Brown.

27. Gary Allan - Right Where I Need To Be (3:02)
The California Cowboy hit a great one here.  The guy in the song says screw work, I wanna be with my woman, because that is right where I need to be.

28. George Jones - Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes (3:15)
This song is a classic about classic songs and artists.  I would love to see someone write a similar song about current icons of country music.

29. Alabama - Tar Top (4:57)
The song of the origins of Alabama--the group, not the state.  For those of you who don't know, Tar Top must have been Randy Owen's nickname in the past.

30. George Strait - Love Without End Amen (3:04)
This guy had a lot of hits, I am too lazy to come up with creative descriptions for all of them.

31. Alabama - If You're Gonna Play In Texas (3:45)
I wonder if they were told to have a fiddle in the band when they played in Texas?

32. George Strait - This Is Where The Cowboy Rides Away (3:22)
“I just found a game that I can't play, this is where the cowboy rides away.”

33. Holly Dunn - Daddy's Hands (3:26)
A common song played at weddings for the father-daughter dance.

34. Kenny Rogers - The Gambler (3:29)
Their were about 6 movies made involving this song, so I guess you could say it was popular.

35. Mac Davis - Lord, It's Hard to be Humble (4:10)
“I can't even look in the mirror, cause I get better looking each day”
“To know me is to love me, I must be a hell of a man.”.....need I go on?  Simply the best song ever written, and I like to think that it was written about me.

36. Wade Hayes - What I Meant To Say (3:17)
The best video of all time.  Wade Hayes sings and is traveling forward while the rest of the video is played in reverse so he can say what he meant instead of what he said that messed everything up.

37. Little Texas - God Blessed Texas (3:27)
A good song, but I loved it when it came out, ah heck, I still love it now.

38. Alabama - Roll On (3:44)
No, it's not about deodorant, but I did at one time think the song was 18 wieners.  Was I deaf or what?  My imagination was too damn good back in the day.

39. Martina McBride - Independence Day (3:24)
I think Andy needs to reverse his sexist song rankings.  He has only 2 songs by females in the top 40.  I at least had one in the top 20.

40. Marty Robbins - El Paso (4:41)
One of Marty's many gunfighter ballads.  Long story short, man wants woman.  Man kills other man and runs.  Man comes back to see woman.  He gets killed since he killed and dies in her arms.

41. Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Fishin' In The Dark (3:26)
You've all heard this song, no explanation necessary.

42. Sawyer Brown - Dirt Road (2:52)
The easy way is not always best.  Take the dirt road, because it goes where you need to go.  It is not easy, but it is not supposed to be.  (NOTE: preceding text was essentially the song lyrics, not my own writing.)

43. Brooks & Dunn - Boot Scootin' Boogie (3:14)
One of the greatest bar/club songs of all time.  Unfortunately, it also started a line dance craze.  I guess you take the good with the bad.

44. Restless Heart - The Bluest Eyes In Texas (4:45)
The eyes of his former love keep haunting him.  Written by a member of Blackhawk, so it must have been great.

45. George Strait - I Cross My Heart (3:27)
The climax of the best movie starring George Strait is the singing of this song.  Okay, so it is the only movie starring Georgie Boy, but the point is true nonetheless.

46. Blackhawk - Goodbye Says It All (3:24)
How could she drill through the bowling ball?  That was just too cruel.  Moral of the story:  You mess up too many times and you are SOL.

47. Alabama - My Home's In Alabama (Single Edit) (4:04)
Rated much higher than I would put it, but a classic by a classic group.  I really can't complain too much.

48. Steve Earle - Guitar Town (2:34)
I like “Copperhead Road” better, but this song is okay.  I would put it closer to 250 or 30, but not everyone can have proper tastes.

49. The Judds - Mama He's Crazy (3:14)
When she sang with her mother she was good.  Now, not so much.

50. Vern Gosden - Chiseled In Stone (3:51)
You're not really alone until your name is “Chiseled in Stone”......(on you're gravestone.)

51. Blackhawk - Big Guitar (Dance Mix) (4:24)
This song was amazingly addicting back in the day.  I remember making a tape of it where this song was looped over and over again on an entire tape.  I still know where it is if anyone would like to hear it.

52. David Lee Murphy - She's Really Something To See (3:57)
How did this guy lose his record contract for about five years?  Great song, and a talented songwriter.

53. Alabama - Close Enough To Perfect (3:33)
She screws up a lot, but it is close enough to perfect.  Brad Paisley's “Little Moments”  would fit nicely with this song.  Perfect=Boring

54. Tracy Byrd - Keeper Of The Stars (4:17)
Sappy love song that hits home with many people.  Guy is thanking whoever controls fate and brought them together.

55. Tim Mcgraw - Something Like That (3:03)
This song came out  a few years too early as I was not yet seventeen the Labor Day weekend of the year it was popular.  A good song irregardless.

56. Toby Keith - Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (3:15)
The first time I heard this song, I was headed to Milwaukee for my brother's college graduation in May of 2002.  DJ Jesse James of Y100 out of Green Bay was pulled off the air after he played this song repeatedly in the wake of Toby being pulled from NBC's Fourth of July television concert that year.

57. Diamond Rio - Norma Jean Riley (3:03)
I used this song for my songbook in freshman English at CHS.  Basic story: Hey man, she's too good for you.  You have no chance.  Guy then thinks how to Git 'R Dun.

58. Conway Twitty - Tight Fittin Jeans (2:50)
Guy sees a woman that is out of place in a bar.  Buys her a beer and they consummate their relationship physically only to never see one another again.

59. Alabama - Forty Hour Week (3:21)
This song mentions farmers, so it is great already just from that.

60. Blackhawk - Like There Ain't No Yesterday (3:17)
As I mentioned in Ty's list, all Blackhawk is great.

61. Alan Jackson - Livin' On Love (3:47)
If you don't have love, it doesn't matter how much money you have, and if you have love, it doesn't matter how much money you have.

62. Kenny Chesney - She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy (4:08)
Superb song written by Paul Overstreet.  Proved once again that John Deere tractors are the sexiest vehicles in the world.

0.63. Brad Paisley - He Didn't Have To Be (4:37)
Touching song that probably is rated too high on this list due to relative newness.

64. Mel McDaniel - Louisianna Saturday Night (2:15)
See Tony, this is where this song should be.  You were off by about 50 places.

65. Martina McBride - My Baby Loves Me (2:36)
This song is old-school.....way back to the mid-90's.  It could be a Girl Power Feminist song, I am really not sure.

66. Little Texas - What Might Have Been (3:58)
I wonder “what might have been” if this talented group didn't break up.

67. Brooks & Dunn - My Next Broken Heart (2:56)
Gotta get the first one before you can work on the next one.

68. Tim Mcgraw - I Like It, I Love (3:25)
I remember way back in 6th grade I was riding to a soccer game for St. Matt's with Ruplingers when Gary mentioned this was his favorite song at the time.  Does this fact change your ranking Andy?

69. Mark Chesnutt - Ol' Country (3:49)
I guess this is a good song, but I would place it at least 100, maybe even 200, spots lower.

70. Shania Twain - Any Man Of Mine (4:06)
Kick, turn, stomp, stomp.  And then you jump, from heel to toe and you do-see-do til your boots and your back ache.  You keep it movin' til you just can't take anymore.  C'mon everybody on the floor..a 1, 2, a 3, 4.

71. Garth Brooks - If Tomorrow Never Comes (3:45)
Should have taken out that loan, never would have had to pay it back.

72. Blackhawk - That's Just About Right (4:04)
Should be higher as Blackhawk ranks right up there with Gus Frerotte in my book.

73. Dan Seals - Big Wheels In The Moonlight (3:53)
Song about big ol' trucks before Toby Keith thought to sing Big ol' Truck.

74. Randy Travis - On The Other Hand (3:08)
Back in the day I had a Randy Travis songbook with the music to play his songs on a piano.  It did me little good since I had neither the talent or patience to learn to play.  I much prefered playing with my Ghostbuster toys.

75. David Lee Murphy - Dust On The Bottle (3:44)
Song that brought David Lee Murphy to the limelight.  Shame he lost his record deal for a few years.

76. Diamond Rio - Love A Little Stronger (3:41)
I never seem to think of Diamond Rio songs when thinking of my favorites, but I guess this one would have to be included.

77. Alabama - Dixieland Delight (3:57)
For being a consistently top group for around 30 years, Alabama sure doesn't get much respect in your list....or was that in mine?

78. Doug Stone - I'd Be Better Off (In a Pine Box) (3:22)
I used to wonder what he meant in this song by pine box.  Then I found out that was a more pleasant way of saying casket.  Then it all made sense.

79. Toby Keith - Does That Blue Moon (3:49)
I can think of about 10 Toby Keith songs to put ahead of this one, but that is neither here nor there.

80. Aaron Tippin - There Ain't Nothing Wrong With The Radio(2:46)
Hold your nose when you sing and you can match the strange tone this man sings with.  Nevertheless, it is a true to form country song all the way.

81. Joe Nichols - The Impossible (4:03)
It's good, but not to the level of Brokenheartsville.  “Here's to the past, they can kiss my glass.  I hope she's happy with him.”

82. Rhett Akins - Driving My Life Away (3:44)
Remake of the Eddie Rabbitt hit for the trucking movie “Black Dog.”  Never saw the movie, but the soundtrack was pretty good.

83. Kenny Chesney - The Good Stuff (3:20)
Milk was the good stuff in this song, so it is a keeper.  Oh wait, that was the name of Tracy Byrd's greatest hits album.

84. Pirates Of The Mississippi - Feed Jake (3:59)
In my memories of this song it was completely different from what I now know it to be.  Confused?  You should be because I know what what I am thinking and I don't know what that was I typed.

85. Blackhawk - I Sure Can Smell The Rain (3:37)
I am running out of things to say about Blackhawk.  I guess they outrank Sawyer Brown in my house....and that is not praise to be taken lightly.

86. Randy Travis - 1982 (2:59)
This was one of the songs in the songbook I had.

87. Tim McGraw - Indian Outlaw (2:59)
Apparently, according to CMT, this song caused a controversy where Indians got pissed off.  I really can't say I remember that, but the song was great.  I even remember seeing the extended dance mix for this song played with a video on CMT.

88. Restless Heart - Big Dreams (In A Small Town) (3:33)
If this song was 3 times longer, it would be over 10 minutes long.  Don't ask me why that matters.

89. Ricky Van Shelton - Life Turned Her That Way (3:22)
What if life didn't turn her that way and she was just born that way?  Then you'd look plenty stupid.

90. Sawyer Brown - Cafe On The Corner (3:20)
This song is for the (Insert State name here) farmers.  At least that's what they say before performing it in concert.

91. Alabama - There's No Way (4:12)
There's no way......you can leave this song of the list.

92. Alan Jackson - Chasin' That Neon Rainbow (3:05)
I like the phrase “Neon Rainbow.”  Not quite to the level of “Monkey Venom,” but close.

93. Chad Brock - Lightning Does The Work (3:47)
This song was from my sophomore year of high school.  I remember listening to it on the radio after the sports meeting in fall of what must have been 1999.

94. Brooks & Dunn - New Man (2:59)
Better than being an old man, I guess.

95. Shania Twain - No One Needs To Know (3:07)
From the movie “Twister”  Video fit the song, but I really didn't care for all the clips from the movie.

96. The Judds - Grandpa (4:14)
If you ever see the video for this song, you can tell it is from the 80's.  The age of big hair.

97. Martina McBride - Cry On The Shoulder Of The Road (3:09)
Must like her “Wild Angels” album as this is the second song from it and I would say only the fourth or fifth best as well.  I actually have this tape in my car.

98. Trace Adkins - Dreaming Out Loud (3:13)
Apparently Trace Adkins is slightly scary in concert because his pants are too tight.  I guess I'll just have to take the word on the street for that.

99. George Strait - Baby Blue (3:31)
Been a while since I've come across a George Strait song.  I wouldn't put this one anywhere near as high as I could name 15 songs I'd put ahead of it, but again, this is not my list.

100. Sawyer Brown - Step That Step (3:01)
This song got better after hearing it on their live album.  I used to listen to the 2nd, 3rd, and this (5th) track on that CD every morning as I got ready for school.

101. Toby Keith - Beer For My Horses (3:24)
Only song I can think of that mentions hanging men in the street and giving alcohol to horses.

102. Aaron Tippin - I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way (3:11)
I really could use a haircut, but that has nothing to do with this song.  I must be getting tired.

103. Garth Brooks - The River (3:41)
I would like to see a more creative title, but what can you do?

104. Conway Twitty - You've Never Been This Far Before (3:02)
This is how they wrote songs about having sex back in the olden days.  Now they just say the words.

105. Keith Whitley - I'm No Stranger To The Rain (3:34)
Many analogies and metaphors involving rain and storms in this hit.
