Adrift No More
They were two ships sailing in the night.  Each on an uncharted course of their own, they sailed searching....for what they knew not.  The years had been long and somewhat lonely.  Fate had not been kind to them in matters of love.  They had both loved and lost.  But, an ever-present hope and yearning deep inside drove them on.

The evening was warm with a soft gentle breeze blowing, as she stood on
the deck beneath the glowing moon.  She had chosen to have dinner under the stars.  She sat alone longing for what she did not have, but so desperately needed.  She was aware her ship was drifting.  Her thoughts went back to a time when life had been pleasant and love had seemed sure.  A single tear
slid down her cheek, as in her mind she finally confronted the fact that the last embers of that love had died, and needed to be put to rest.  Her heart heavy and feeling so alone, she lifted her face to the breeze, drinking in the smells of the ocean before she rose to go to her room, and another night of restless dreams and longing.

That was when she saw it, a ship looming off her starboard bow.  Where had it come from?  Had she been so lost in thought that she had not heard
it approaching?  As her eyes took in the details of this vessel, she immediately noticed it was almost identical to hers.  It was strong but weathered from many years of exposure to the elements.  In spite of the weathering it stood
tall and handsome in the moonlight.  She did not feel fear or concern at its appearance, but instead feelings of comfort and anticipation swept over her.

A man called to her asking permission to come aboard.  She knew she should deny his request.  But, something in the sound of his voice told her all would be well.  Permission was granted and he came aboard.  He stood tall before her.  He was handsome, and his honey colored hair streaked with silver.  His hazel eyes were soft and warm with a mischevious twinkle. She extended her hand to him as he introduced himself, and thanked her for allowing him to board.  She invited him to sit with her and poured him coffee.  He began to tell her why he had come.

He, too, had been adrift for some time now.  He had become very lonely
and was tired of the trinkets life had offered him.  He had seen the lights from her ship twinkling on the night's horizon, and had been drawn to it almost uncontrollably.  Not knowing why, or what he would find when he reached it, he set his course to overtake the ship.  Now, he was here and his heart knew why.

Sitting across from him was the most exquisite woman he had ever seen.  Her long dark hair hung loosely around her shoulders.  Her beautiful green eyes looked into the very depth of his soul as her full lips smiled and her hypnotic voice left him weak.  As they sat talking of their journies, he knew this woman was not like the others.  She was intelligent and wise beyond her years.  She was warm, passionate, and caring.  He was amazed at how comfortable he felt with her.  These two were not strangers.  Their eyes had never met before, but there was a bond between them like neither had ever known.

This was to be the first of many midnight trysts.  Each one was hours spent in conversation, sharing, and both enjoying being in the presence of the other.  Then one night as he was leaving, the inevitable happened.  He reached for her and without hesitation she was in his arms.  As he held her, he looked into her eyes and all traces of loneliness and restlessness floated away on the warm breeze into the night.  As their lips met in that first kiss, he knew in his heart he wanted to love and protect her for the rest of his life.

She pulled away and looked up into his handsome face.  A smile played upon her lips as her fingertips caressed his cheek.  At last she had found a man who would love her the way she needed to be loved.  Her body trembled at his touch and her heart raced as once again he pulled her close and kissed her passionately.  The stars sparkled in the sky and the moon smiled down upon them.  No more would they sail alone.
