Candidates running for Governor

Politics in Wisconsin in 2002 will be fast and furious.

The departure of Governor Tommy Thompson has changed the entire political landscape, with no clear favorite in the 2002 race.

Acting Governor Scott McCallum looks to go unchallenged in the Republican primary, but his continued missteps and blunders leave many wondering whether he is up to the challenge of being Governor, and if there still might be a Republican primary challenger on the horizon.

On the Democrat side, Attorney General Jim Doyle is the favorite to win the nomination.  With more money, a 3-1 advantage in the polls, and the experience of winning three statewide races, he is in a position to win.  His closest competitor, Congressman Tom Barrett is plagued by money problems, no statewide name id and a restrictive Congressional schedule that keeps him in Washington.
