MEDICINAL PARTS
Leaves, roots and young shoots.

Native to Europe, naturalized in the United States.
A perennial plant that trives in clear, cold water
and is found in ditches and streams everywhere.
Cultivated for its leaves, principably used
as salad greens or ganishes.

Connected to a creeping rootstock,
the hollow, branching stem,
one to two feet in length, generally extends
with its leaves with its leaves above the water.
Smooth somewhat fleshy, dark green leaves
are odd-pennate with one to four pairs
of small, oblong or roundish leaflets.

The small white flowers bloom in enlongating
terminal resemes from May to september.

Fruit is long, curvered linear-cyllyndric,
partitioned pod.
