AVENTURINE - A variety of quartz, specifically an opaque, massive Quartz containing small mica, hematite, fushite, or goethite scales which cause a glistening effect. It appears packed with metallic speckles, especially when viewed in bright light.

The glistening effect of aventurine is known as aventurescence. The color of the aventurescence depends on the mineral included in the stone. Mica inclusions give the give the stone a yellowish or silverish glitter or sheen. Goethite and Hematite inclusions give the stone a reddish or grayish glitter or sheen. Fuschite inclusions give the stone a greenish sheen.
Most aventurine is quartz, but some oligoclase feldspar exhibits aventurescence, and may also be called Aventurine. However, the term Feldspar must be added to the name to distinguish it from Quartz Aventurine. The more accepted term for Aventurine Feldspar is Sunstone. (see Sunstone)
Aventurine may be green, orange, red, brown, yellow, or gray. All colors may be used in jewelry, but the green type is by far the most desirable. Aventurine is cut and polished into cabochons and beads for jewelry, and is sometimes carved into ornamental figures.
Aventurine is often referred to as the all-purpose healer. This means not only that it is considered by many to be good for physical disorders, but that it is healing on all levels. Green is the color of healing, and aventurine, as a member of the quartz family, has a concentrated ability to dissolve blockages. It's a particularly effective crystal for emotional healing (and is especially helpful when worn for this purpose or placed on the heart center during chakra balancing). It helps to balance the emotions, and is one of the best stones to wear or carry during stressful periods. It can also be used in crystal layouts when stress is internalized in the solar plexus area.

General Healing Uses: (all colors)
- Aventurine is said to be useful in relieving migraine and in soothing the eyes. A traditional method of using this stone is to leave it in water overnight and to use the water the following day to bathe eyes.
- Aventurine water - made in the same way can also be used for bathing irritations of the skin.
- Aventurine is a soother and helps relax one for a better night's sleep! It also relieves tension and shock. Improves vitality, equalizes blood pressure.
