Grounding Exercises
One very important tool in magick is grounding. This is also known as earthing energy. Grounding is important for a healthy life in general as well as a magickal tool. Humans act and react to the electical impulses that run through our bodies. Everything that a human body does comes from an electrical impulse running from some point on our body to our brain and back again. There has been research within quantum physics that proves the human body and mind is a complex interaction of electromagnetic fields that affect humans on the physical as well as the spiritual levels.

When we practice magick, our bodies, which are made up of energy, work with outside and inside energy. There are times that the energy that we have inside or the energy that we are working with can become scattered or less focused that what is healthy for us. By doing groubding exercises, we are able to connect to the energy that is deep within the earth, energies that are very stable. Utilizing this energy from deep within the earth allows the energy that resides within our bodies to be filtered and cleansed which in turn balances our electrical impulses to prevent shorts and blown fuses! :)

Grounding is a very effective way to bring oneself completely into ones body. There are researchers out there that believe that many people will go through their entire life feeling like they are disconnect frmo their true self, or that they are not in touch with their true self. They are existing in their bodies, but not LIVING in their bodies. Some people think that severly traumatic events can cause one to become disconnected from our inner physical/spiritual self. Now, whether you believe the theories I listed above or not, there is evidence that intense magickal workings, prolonged meditation, astral travel, etc., can cause a person to neglect the physical self and thus become unbalanced in energy flow.

How can you tell if you are unbalanced and need to ground? Well there are symptoms. Some of the symptoms are feeling overly emotional, crying for no apparent reason, being unable to cope with everyday problems, constant illness, generally feelings unwell, becoming overly angry, feeling like you are disconnected with reality, inability to focus, etc. If you feel this way, you should try grounding. If repeated attempts at grounding do not seem to help, seek professional help as you may have symptoms of mental illness. All of the symptoms that I listed above are typical symptoms for Bi-Polar Disorder, Manic Depression, Borderline Personality Disorder, as well as a few other Mental Illnesses. I, myself, have Bi-Polar Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder, so I have to ground myself often, many times it does not work because what I am experiencing is caused by my mental illness. However, there are times that the grounding works enough to take the adge off, that is when I know that it is a combination of my mental illness and my energy being out of whack.

Before you can make the decision to lead a magickal life, you must be prepared to take full responsibility for ALL of your actions, and you must be willing to take the necessary steps to protect yourself. When you start doing magick, of any kind, be sure to keep track of your energy levels and your moods after each magickal experience. By doing this, you will learn when you need to ground and when you are just having a rough time emotionally (everyone goes through this from time to time.) Below you will see several different grounding exercises. Look over them, and try each of them. Find the one that you like the best and which one works the best for you. Practice it everyday for a month and take note of the results at the end of that month. There may be times that you wish to practice more often, and that is fine, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Once you have been performing your grounding exercise on a regular basis, you will find it very easy to make the important connection to the Earth and balance the energy within moments. Grounding should be part of your life everyday, not just when you do magick.

SIMPLE GROUNDING EXERCISE
This exercise only takes a few minutes and should be performed daily to bring yourself back into your body. It is especially helpful when you have had a sudden shock or upset, are feeling overwrought and emotional, have just been attacked by a person or dealt an emotional blow, even when you have had a little too much to drink at a party. It gives an immediate reconnection with self and the Universe, and is calming and empowering.

Stand facing north with your feet comfortably apart and your spine straight. Breathe deeply four times, bringing the breath from your stomach and letting it out with a strong whoosh. Close your eyes and imagine that you are a beautiful tree, standing strong and straight. Raise your arms to become the branches of the tree, reaching high into the sky. Still breathing slowly and deeply, become aware of the energy pulsing through your body, flowing through your veins like the tree’s sap.

Focus on your feet and feel the solid ground beneath you. Imagine there are roots sprouting from the soles of your feet, growing longer and thicker as they extend deep into the earth below. See the roots of your tree working their way deep into the ground, down past the small stones and heavier soil, through the layers of the earth. You will feel a pull from the center of your feet as your roots grow deeper. Your body may rock forward and straighten as you align with your centre of balance.

Imagine the power of your life force flowing through your body ~ much like the life-giving sap flowing through the tree. Concentrate on this energy and start pushing it down through your body, down through your legs and the roots growing from your feet, deep into the earth below. You may “see” the energy as a golden glowing light pulsing with your essence, or you may “feel” the energy as it moves through your veins and the spaces of your body. When you have established the flow of energy downward, concentrate on each point of your body, starting with your head. See the energy flowing down through your throat, into your chest cavity, then deeper to your belly. Push your energy from your belly, into your sacral cavity, feeling it push past the base of your spine before it flows into two streams running through your legs, to be released from the roots growing from the soles of your feet.

Pay particular attention to any dark spots you observe in your energy, or any feelings of “heaviness” in the energy flow. These can be caused by negative beliefs, contact with negative people or situations, or accumulated “stale” energies; or can signify illness, damage from past sickness, or physical imbalance in different areas of your body. See yourself pushing those negative energies out of your body ~ really see them being flushed down through the centre of your physical form, to be dispersed deep within the earth, where they can be filtered and cleansed into useful energy.

Spend a few minutes focusing on each area of your body, pushing the energy towards the earth’s centre and making sure that a deep connection with the earth is made, until you feel that it is enough. You should be able to feel and visualize the roots being embedded deep in the earth and yourself firmly rooted as a tree whose golden sap is flowing to the underground rivers of energy at the planet’s core.

When you feel firmly grounded, take several deep breaths and allow your arms to drift down to your sides. Imagine your roots retracting back into the soles of your feet. Inhale slowly and breathe out deeply several times, before you open your eyes to an improved world view.

Tree Hugging

This exercise will require a nice looking tree that you wouldn't mind putting your arms around, as well as some privacy, if you're the type to feel self conscious hugging a tree in public (you can also sit at the base of the tree, or lean your back against the trunk). When you have found yourself a good tree, wrap your arms are around the trunk. Close your eyes and take at least three deep breaths, loosening your muscles at the same time. Position your feet so that they are flat on the ground. If possible, remove your shoes so your feet are making contact with the earth; this will aid in your grounding process. Acknowledge any negativity you may have stored in your system - thoughts of worry, anxiety, past hurts, grudges, other people's energies, physical pain, etc., and then one by one, release them into the earth, watching them sink deep into the soil beneath you. Imagine that energy being soaked up and neutralized by the earth's healing energies.

When you're ready, imagine the healing energy of the earth begin rising up through the soles of your feet; you can imagine this energy as having a color, even a certain texture. Feel this energy rising up through your limbs, into your torso, arms, shoulders, neck and your head, and then out through the crown of your head. Next, visualize pure healing white light from the universe streaming down into you through the crown of your head. Imagine this light flowing throughout your body, and sink into the ground through the soles of your feet. See the two energies mixing within your body, harmonizing and balancing your energies. Allow both energies to run for a few minutes. Don't forget to breathe deeply and slowly while you're doing this. You might feel tingling, buzzing, warmth or energy coursing through your body, all of which is normal. If you find yourself getting dizzy, slow down the energy flow, and take it easy for a few minutes. Slowly bring yourself back to the present, and detach yourself from the tree gently. Thank the tree for its assistance, as well as Mother Earth for her healing and loving energies.

Touching the Earth

Direct contact with the earth is a good grounding technique - having your hands in the earth itself grounds you directly. Mooshing around in the dirt is good, sitting in it is better yet, all with the intent to release energy, connect with the earth and allow it to help you. As with anything, intent is vital. The best thing you can do on a daily consistent basis for grounding is to have some direct contact with the earth every day. If you can't actually touch the earth, use earth charms, or find a spot of grass on the way to work, take off your shoe and rub your foot on it.

One of the most extreme techniques is being buried; I don't recommend it as a solo activity. But I've done it and it is truly amazing in its ability to reorder you.

Here are several ways you can ground

1 )place your head and hands to the ground and willfully push out the excess energy.
sometimes tapping the earth with your hands helps.

2) eat and drink. bread and even potatos are great grounders especially baked potatos.

3) Visualize the energy around you. see the excess energy as an exo-skeleton. bring it out and all around you. Now take a few steps back (physically) and see this energy fall down to the ground.

4) hug a tree and give it your energy and lt it go into the earth. You may thank the tree or leave it a small offering if you want to.

5) if you are able to just visualize the ecess energy leaving you and going deep into the earth.

6) sometimes holding a dark rock or a dark semi-precious stone or crystal can help you ground.

These examples are good in helping you ground after the ritual.

These breathing exercises helps to get rid of any excess kundalini energy and is calming and relaxing.
Breathe deeply down into your belly, through your nose. Hold your breath then exhale through your mouth. Then hold your breath. Repeat this process as many times as you may need to do so.

The next step is to breathe in through your nose and as you're inhaling, Feel the prana going through your arua into your skin , hair and nostils to fill you and make every cell come alive with prana and as you exhale through your mouth  see the prana leave you and taking what ever garbage it may be carrying. After doing this several times, go to the next step.

Inhale again, deeply, through your nose and fill your whole body with your breath. Visualize this air/prana going into your arms, legs, feet, hands, head and throughout my whole being. Then hold your breath, then exhale. BUT as you exhale throuh your mouth, see the air exit through your feet. Then hold your breath and inhale again through your nose. Allow the prana to once again fill your body. Hold your breath. Then as you exhale through your mouth, push the energy out through your hands. Then hold your breath, then once again inhale. Allow the prana to fill you. Hold your breath then as you exhale, see all that energy leave through your head. Repeat this process until you feel it's right.

Also as you are laying down, see a net below you; its a silver net. Program this net to catch anything that remains and any blockages that you may have. Slowly raise this net to go through you, catching all of this unwanted energy and raise it above you and mentally toss it away from you.

Do you see how this grounding is diffrent from the ones before? Sometimes you may even need to do this after grounding. Only you can decide that.

Grounding Cord Meditation

Sit in a comfortable position, your arms resting comfortably at your sides.

Close your eyes and breathe deeply. Let your breathing be slow and relaxed.

Imagine a thick wide cord attaching itself to the base of your spine. This is your grounding cord. It can be a thick piece of rope, a tree trunk, or any other material that feels strong and stable. Make sure your cord is wide and sturdy enough. Then imagine a thick metal hook attaching itself to the end of your cord.

Now visualize your grounding cord dropping down two hundred feet below the earth and hooking on to the solid bedrock below the earth.

Continue to breathe deeply and notice the sense of peace and stability that your grounding cord can bring you.

Replace the cord with a new one each day or whenever you feel your emotions getting out of control.
